ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION:

  • For Service, Technical Support, Marketing & Sales Roles: Additional compensation is available through either an Incentive and/or Commission Plan.

  • For Employees who reside in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California, additional compensation is offered through a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The sales specialist in this position is responsible for a wide variety of sales related functions including sales of all assigned product lines to include demonstrations, installs, training and reporting. This position has a goal to meet or exceed the Regional Life Science and LCMS forecasted goal. Sales specialist shall close and support these opportunities/sales by utilizing their abilities as well as, other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

This position will be required to reach or exceed assigned sales goals within an assigned geographic territory. Will be utilized as a product expert and assist other regional personnel on the sales closure of all Life Science opportunities. Sales specialist will also facilitate post sales technical support for the assigned products.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. To become proficient in all Life Science products; by maintaining a high level of technical skills in all areas related to the assigned products.
  2. To assist regional efforts in making sales calls, maintaining good customer relationships, demonstrations, installations, training and providing technical support.
  3. To assist the regional personnel in identifying and closing Life Science sales opportunities.
  4. To develop demonstrations strategies and presentations of products to potential and current customers to support the sales efforts.
  5. To obtain competitive information for assigned products and analyze – report finding to Managers and Marketing.
  6. To evaluate, recommend and forecast market needs and then propose to develop and implement hardware and software resolutions to meet these needs to Life Science Marketing Manager.
  7. To provide input in the creation of documentation for sales support materials including feature/benefit analysis and positioning strategies for each product assigned to marketing.
  8. To assist with applications work as required effectively positioning the product and analyzing customer samples.
  9. To develop a knowledge base through the accurate documentation and reporting of product failures and repairs.
  10. To help develop and provide technical training and materials for customers and SSI employees.
  11. To provide product design change and improvement recommendations.
  12. To maintain assigned instruments in application labs.
  13. Significant travel in the United States, in order to support, the assigned product line is required. This travel may be by air or by car.
  14. Maintenance and safekeeping of all assigned company property.
SCOPE:

This position’s primary focus is to achieve sales goals while maintaining excellent customer relations and reporting back to the Regional and Home Offices those factors, both good and bad, that affect the assigned territory.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The sales specialist must have excellent problem solving, technical, application and operational skills related to Chemistry and Mass Spectrometers; in order to find customer solutions and meet regional sales goals while ensuring customer satisfaction. Incumbent must have at least one product proficiency badge, from company internal developmental program.

A minimum of a BS Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, with a Ph.D. being highly preferred. At least one year of laboratory experience with LCMS and one year of sales experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

May include frequent bending, standing, stooping, walking, talking, sitting/driving for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of instrumentation/parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 40 pounds routinely throughout the workday. Will also be required from time to time to assist in lifting heavier equipment. Incumbent must have use of hand to finger senses, in order to use and grasp hand tools to repair instrumentation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards in particular to laboratory safety protocol. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices as required by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures and/or customer dictated policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is a field-based role that may work in the service repair lab from time to time, while the majority of work days are spent traveling (day and overnight) to customer locations within the region. The position requires the incumbent to have the ability to work alone on projects, as well as, collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at several different work sites during-the-course of a business day in-order to support the needs of Shimadzu customers. Extra hours may periodically be required, in-order to fulfill the functions required by this position. The position will include contact with SSI employees and outside customers that requires prompt and friendly handling of all related inquires.
