AstraZeneca. We are a global, science-led, patient-focused pharmaceutical company. We are dedicated to transforming the future of healthcare by unlocking the power of what science can do for people, society and the planet.

JOIN OUR INTEGRATED BIOANALYSIS-DISCOVERY BIOLOGY TEAM!

Join our Integrated Bioanalysis (iBA) Global Team, where you will be supporting the growing portfolio of ADCs and other complex biotherapeutics by applying advanced bioanalytical techniques with LCMS-focus.

This is an important technical and scientific role responsible for strengthening technical capabilities to design and implement robust bioanalytical strategies. You will have the opportunity to have an immediate and lasting impact on our diverse pipeline.

The Integrated Bioanalysis team within Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences provides broad discovery, preclinical, and clinical support across all therapeutic areas enabling pipeline delivery, decision making, innovation and advancement to improve the lives of patients through life-changing medicines.

Accountabilities:

You will be located at our Gaithersburg hub where you will work alongside TA leads and stakeholders. In this highly visible scientific laboratory-based role, you will utilize your experience and proven track record to design and develop sophisticated assays to deliver robust bioanalytical data that will impact drug design and development. You will also work with a range of colleagues across several key groups influencing drug design, exposure efficacy relationships and safety and tolerability preparing for candidate selection. You will enhance the reputation of Integrated Bioanalysis for scientific excellence by presenting at internal and external meetings, and publishing manuscripts.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline preferred. Must possess relevant experience in biotherapeutics analysis.

  • Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline required with at least 5 years of experience post-Masters. Must possess relevant industry experience.

  • Validated experience in protein mass spectrometry, including but not limited to ADCs and complex biotherapeutics.

  • Experienced with intact protein mass spectrometry and protein digestion protocols to support bioanalytical strategy and methodologies.

  • Extensive experience with a wide range of HRMS systems and LC of proteins/peptides.

  • Experience is automated and manual analysis of intact protein MS data.

  • Skilled in development and implementation of complex bioanalytical methods.

  • Expertise in variety of mass spectrometers (QQQ and HRMS) from different vendors.

  • Expertise with top-down and middle-down protein analyses & MS workflows.

  • Understanding of how protein sequence, structure, and post-translational modifications impact drug design efforts, including biotransformation of ADCs.

  • Interpretation and integration of complicated datasets.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and / or tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proven publication and presentation record.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Worked collaboratively with stakeholders, providing solutions to challenges and mitigating risk.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experienced in multiple therapeutic modalities

  • Experience mentoring colleagues in a collaborative environment

  • Oversee assay transfer, scientific quality and study conduct at CRO partners

  • Experience with intact protein and/or peptide analysis from tissue samples

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That’s why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we’re not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.
