Research Scientist - R&D Chemistry Applications
Are you interested in a hands-on role focused on the continuous, fast-paced development of reagent kits and consumables for SCIEX Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) systems?
The Research Scientist, R&D Chemistry Applications is a hands-on function responsible for carrying out continuous, rapid cadence, new product and workflow development of reagent kits and consumables for SCIEX Capillary Electrophoresis systems. This role is actively involved in new product development, product sustaining and capability development activities while collaborating with scientists, product managers, reagent manufacturing, systems engineers and customers. In this role you will have the opportunity to develop novel chemistries, workflows and applications for Capillary Gel Electrophoresis (CGE, CZE, ICIEF) and associated instrumentation. You will be responsible for understanding customers’ needs and routine operations to help guide the development of technologies that address customers’ needs.
This position is part of the SCIEX Global Research & Development (R&D) team and will be located on-site in Framingham. The Framingham R&D team works closely with R&D teams across the globe to develop and provide integrated solutions to the customers.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Planning, organization and execution of independent research that includes conception, implementation and experimental evaluation of novel chemistries and improved workflows for CE applications.
- Collaborating with scientists in developing and testing gels for capillary electrophoresis applications
- Collaborating with Hardware and software research team for evaluating chemistries with CE systems for innovative workflows.
- Carrying out, completing and communicating the results of original and independent research in the form of presentations, peer-reviewed publications, invention disclosures
- Carrying out tasks related to new product development, providing support in design transfer to manufacturing and product sustainment
- Providing scientific and technical support to internal and external customers and collaborators.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Deep knowledge in capillary electrophoresis and applications in large molecules (DNA, RNA, Proteins)
- Extensive experience in the Pharmaceutical/Bioanalytical industry with an emphasis on capillary gel electrophoresis.
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or Bioanalytical chemistry with greater than 5 years or Ph.D. with minimum 2 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical/Bioanalytical industry with an emphasis on capillary gel electrophoresis.
- Working with stakeholders (Quality, Product Management and other R&D teams) and following QMS processes related to chemistry and consumables development.
- Experience with troubleshooting of CE instrumentation and Software within the overall workflow is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work well within a cross-functional team environment.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Mass spectrometry
- Microfluidics
- Liquid chromatography
- Broad experience in analytical chemistry
