Location/Division Specific Information

The Onsite Applications Specialist – is a specialized role within the Instrument Services Business Unit which is directly responsible for the innovative technology of mass spectrometry and its application to life science research, including all clinical research and toxicology applications.

This position will be site based at one of our Strategic Account in South San Francisco, CA.

The Onsite Application Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert Thermo Fisher Scientific ant Genentech.  They will apply scientific expertise to identify key application needs to enable our customers to accelerate their science in clinical research, biomarkers, targeted protein analysis, genetic biochemistry and toxicology. 

A successful candidate will be a highly motivated and diligent individual who is passionate about science, mass spectrometry, and improving overall human health.  This individual will have superb interpersonal and communication skills relevant to the role as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of peers, commercial sales, and marketing.  Ultimately, the candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, highly dynamic and exciting environment that is on the cutting edge of mass spectrometry technology.

A Day in the Life

  • Develop mass spectrometry based (LC-MS/MS) methods/workflow on large & small molecules, proteins and peptides for clinical research or toxicology applications.
  • Design and execute experiments to support New Product Introduction.
  • Support collaborations with key opinion leaders from application perspective and leverage data/results from such collaborations for marketing collateral.
  • Train sales and/or customers on our workflow and deliver key product propositioning information.
  • Interact with the global commercial teams to support pre- and post- sales requirements

Keys to Success

Education
  • MS/Ph.D degree in Science (chemistry, biology or related field) is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree with 5+ years of experience is required.
Experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of hands-on liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry experience and expertise in small and/or large molecules method and applications development.
  • Experience in Proteomics is preferred.
  • Hands-on practical knowledge of sample preparation for complex matrices such as plasma/serum, oral fluid, urine, and/or whole blood.
  • Strong domain knowledge of the clinical research and toxicology analytical industries is preferred.
  • High comfort level of interacting, discussing, and presenting to internal/external customers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills required
  • Skill to pick up new technologies quickly and troubleshoot independently
  • Ability to develop credibility and network with proven and positive professional relationships
  • Ability to work within a highly matrixed organization with cross functional teams is essential
  • Up to 25% of domestic travel

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $100,000.00–$135,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
