Team Leader - Water Laboratory

Are you passionate about science and people management? We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Team Leader to join our Water Microbiology Process Laboratory in Trowbridge. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of laboratory technicians and microbiologists, playing a key role in the delivery of high-quality testing services for our clients. You’ll be part of a collaborative management team, helping drive operational excellence, team development, and customer satisfaction.

Hours Per Week: 40
Days Per Week: Monday to Friday
Contract: Full Time & Permanent
Salary: £28,237 per annum

The day to day

  • Oversee daily operations within the Water Microbiology Process Laboratory
  • Support and supervise pre-incubation activities including filtration, pipetting, and serial dilutions
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Quality standards
  • Lead plate reading and pathogen confirmation activities
  • Handle routine client communications in a professional manner
  • Manage staffing and working hours using our Time Management System
  • Coordinate and deliver training to team members
  • Support the implementation and effective use of laboratory software systems
  • Use KPIs to help manage workflow and meet client demands
  • Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota (a driving licence is required)

The essentials

  • Experience working in a microbiology laboratory environment
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for developing others
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Computer literacy, especially with LIMS and Microsoft Office (Excel essential)
  • Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients across multiple sites
  • Problem-solving mindset and a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Technical knowledge of water microbiology and waterborne pathogens
  • A degree in a relevant scientific or management subject is beneficial but not essential
