Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic guides. This position will be based at our new bioanalytical laboratory in GoCo Health Innovation City which is due to open later this year. This lab will serve pharmaceutical and biotech customers with advanced laboratory services and leading-edge instrumentation across all phases of pharmaceutical development to help deliver life-changing medicines to patients worldwide and will provide comprehensive and full-service solutions, encompassing both small and large molecules, biomarkers and novel modalities.

The Associate Research Scientist will be pivotal in the successful opening of our new bioanalytical laboratory in GoCo Health Innovation City. As an Associate Research Scientist you will work as a Principal Investigator on assigned projects and be responsible for the regulatory and scientific conduct of those projects. You will Performs troubleshooting on multiple immunoassays and chromatography assays (ELISA, MSD, EML, LCMS), calculate and interpret data, and record data in adherence with PPD SOPs and any additional requirements specific to the lab and / or client. You will act as the technical project leader for multiple projects and interact with clients regularly to provide updates.
A day in the Life:
- Independent analytical testing, method optimization/validation, and/or other specialty technologies studies OR method transfers for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems. Understands and conforms to methods, and protocols applicable to assigned tasks. Designs and implements experiments independently.
- Reviews and critiques study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.
- Prepares and reviews study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.
- Communicates data and technical issues to clients on a weekly basis (or as needed).
- Provides technical guidance and training to staff.
- Leads analytical (procedural and instrumental) troubleshooting sessions.
- Assists in preparation and implementation of SOPs and quality systems.
- Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.
Keys to Success:
Education/Experience
- Minimum Bachelor's OR Master’s degree in Biochemistry or similar field
- Minimum 5 years experience working in a CRO/Pharma environment in a similar role requiring Project Management
- Experience in GLP/GCP/GMP regulated environment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of general immunochemistry and chromatography with specific experience in techniques such as ELISA, MSD, LCMS, bioanalysis
- Ability to independently perform root cause analysis for method investigations
- Proficiency on technical operating systems
- Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Consistent record in technical writing skills
- Time management and project management skills with client facing experience preferred
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team
- Ability to train junior staff
