R&D LC/MS Chemist

Job Description

Agilent Technologies is seeking a talented, creative, and dedicated R&D chemist to work in the development and verification of LC/MS products.

Primary responsibility includes:

  • Operation of LC-triple quadrupole mass spectrometers
  • Creating and executing design verification and design validation plans. You will create and run tests to verify that prototype designs meet sensitivity, speed, resolution and accuracy specifications.
  • Preparing and analyzing samples. Our main goal is to support customers in a variety of markets, including food safety, environmental and pharmaceutical analysis. In this regard, we validate new designs by running customer workflows early in the product life cycle. This includes using a range of sample preparation methods such as solid phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction, and protein precipitation among others.
  • Processing and evaluating data. You will be using Agilent software to process and translate raw data into a format that allows drawing qualitative and quantitative conclusions.
  • Maintaining LC/MS systems. As part of your daily job, you will prepare mobile phases, LC solvents and ensure that mass spectrometers are tuned and the LC/MS system ready to acquire data.

You will work in one of the most technically interesting and stimulating R&D environments. Your colleagues are very talented and experienced engineers and scientists. Together we make industry leading innovative mass spectrometers.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in chemistry with LC/MS experience.
  • Knowledge operating and maintaining LC/MS instruments, performing LC/MS method development, and evaluating LC/MS data is a must.
  • Hands-on attitude in developing and troubleshooting own work. Prepares samples needed for analysis. Performs instrument tuning and calibration.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent communication skills with ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to present results at technical meetings and/or publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.
  • Previous experience operating Agilent mass spectrometers and MassHunter software tools is a plus.
  • Experience with designing, building, and debugging experimental systems
  • Computer modeling of optical systems
