Technical Specialist
About the Role
ALS Food & Pharmaceutical Division operates a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory in Rydalmere, Sydney, serving a diverse client base.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Specialist to join our Metals & Wet Chemistry team!
This role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:45pm (with some flexibility).
Day to Day
The Technical Specialist (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) is responsible for:
- Authorising and release of test results.
- Completing laboratory routine testing as requested by the Laboratory Supervisor, including sophisticated testing requirements.
- Demonstrating superior operational capability in all aspects of testing.
- Autonomy to independently undertake tests, and interpret results, based on approved methods and harness the resources to conduct the test.
- Ensure that QC is performed, as required by the ALS F&P Quality systems.
- Identifying Out of Specification / Out of Trend test results and inform supervisor to ensure investigations isare started within required time frame
- Conduct out of specification / out of trend results investigation - identify root cause, remedial action, client notification, and notify appropriate government authorities as required.
- Follow tests methodologies and associated procedures.
- Maintain instruments and qualification of instruments.
- Identifying opportunities for operational improvement including reducing repeated testing, and method deviations.
- Achieve performance targets/metrics as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor.
Essential Skills, Experience & Knowledge:
- A Diploma or bachelor’s degree in science (preferably Chemistry).
- Ideally, strong relevant laboratory and supervisory experience.
- Preferably, previous knowledge and experience with compendial methods (BP and USP), wet chemistry techniques, ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
- Understand GMP requirements.
- Demonstrated technical leadership.
- Strong, clear and professional communication (verbal and written) and organisational skills are essential to engage with clients, lab technicians and to coordinate with other departments.
- Excellent productivity, multi-tasking capability - consistently able to maintain productivity while working under pressure or heavy workloads.
- Time management skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow direction, methods, and SOPs closely.
- Computer literacy, familiarity with LIMS as required.
- Capacity to make decisions and operate while unsupervised.
- Ability to troubleshoot methods, practical problem-solving skills.
