Scientist II Bioreactor Process Development

What You’ll Do:
- Independently preparing and running bench-scale bioreactors and bioreactor-related equipment (controllers, pumps, autoclaves, etc.) including building and autoclaving bioreactor parts and assemblies as well as assisting with bench-scale bioreactor operations (daily sampling and analytics, cleaning and maintenance, inoculation activities, run preparation, and troubleshooting).
- Performing mammalian cell culture work in an aseptic hood such as cell passaging and cell banking.
- Independently design, execute, and analyse statistically designed experiments (DOE) with minimal support.
- Responsible for equipment calibrations and Media preparations in the Lab.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) on bioreactor control systems, related software, and analytical equipment. Expertise should also include maintaining and troubleshooting relevant instruments
- Author SOPs, reports, and slides to summarize, and interpret experiment results.
- Communicate experimental plans and data to cross-functional teams and clients
- Collaborate with vendors to develop, order, and troubleshoot equipment prototypes.
- Train and mentor junior staff and interns.
- Perform regular bench-scale bioreactor operations tasks that include, but not limited to, daily sampling and analytics, inoculation and run preparation
- Potential for weekend work and being on-call for critical bioreactor runs.
Your profile:
- Master’s in engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field with 5+ years of experience or Ph.D. in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field.
- Proficiency in both verbal and written English is essential.
- Excellent attention to detail, able to stay organized and relaxed in complex situations while keeping track of multiple tasks and data.
- Strong writing skills; comfortable communicating with project managers and subject matter experts about processes and technologies.
- Enthusiastic problem-solver who is self-motivated, able to make and follow through on goals, action-oriented, flexible, and eager to learn and grow their science and technology skill set.
- Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and statistical software (JMP, MATLAB, etc).
- Experience with aseptic technique and small-scale cell culture
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally respond in person to alarms during off-hours.
Pluses
- Experience in other functional areas (purification and analytical sciences) and making cross-functional connections in project work is also preferred.
- Experience with upstream bioprocessing equipment, especially perfusion technology, as well as analytical or downstream purification equipment.
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
- Experience analyzing data in tools such as JMP, R, or Python.
- General understanding of cell biology, fluid dynamics, and biotransport.
- Experience in training, mentoring, and supervising team members.
