Instrument Chemist
The role
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity at our ALS Environmental site. We are currently seeking an experienced Instrument Chemist to join our dedicated Organics team.
Based at Wangara, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality results on time while striving to exceed expectations.
This full-time position encompasses a range of key responsibilities, including:
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual
- Supervision and training of laboratory staff
- Prioritising daily workloads
- Operation and maintenance of instrumentation
- Reporting of results in accordance with Quality Work Instructions
- Ensuring compliance with the laboratory’s QC and HSE requirements
- Preparing standards for sample analysis
- Maintaining relevant documentation
The essentials
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent (Honours and Chemistry disciplines advantageous but all sciences backgrounds are encouraged to apply)
- At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial laboratory
- Previous experience operating with GC/FID, GCMS or LCMS MS would be advantageous
- Available to work Monday to Friday on either day or afternoon shifts, with the flexibility to occasionally work on Saturdays as required.
- Understanding of sample preparation for organics analysis for soil and water matrices highly regarded
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- A working knowledge of organic sample preparation techniques for Environmental samples. PFAS experience would be highly regarded.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
- Interest in method development, verification, and validation
- A working knowledge of lab safety requirements
- Ability to work under pressure in a team environment
- A keen interest in organic chemistry and associated analysis
Additionally, the following skills and interests are advantageous and desirable:
- A demonstrated interest or personal hobby in areas such as computer building, circuitry, automation, Excel macros, scripting, or 3D printing
- Coding or programming capability (e.g. VBA, Python, R, SQL or similar)
- Exposure to or interest in robotics, AI, process automation or digital optimisation
