Laboratory Technician

We are currently seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our Organic Team based in Hamilton.

This role offers Monday to Friday hours, with a 30‑hour work week and flexibility to increase up to 40 hours, depending on operational requirements.

This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, good chemical knowledge and a positive approach to safety who enjoys working in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical procedures in line with ALS Quality Work Instructions and QA/QC requirements.
  • Organise daily tasks to maximise efficiency and meet turnaround times.
  • Complete all analyses within defined timeframes and relevant analytical standards.
  • Identify and report anomalies in sample results, behaviour or sample types to the Supervisor.
  • Calibrate equipment as required and ensure only verified equipment is used.
  • Perform calculations related to analytical preparations.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within the laboratory.
  • Manage consumable stock required for assigned tasks.
  • Assist with additional laboratory duties as required.

About You

Essential Skills, Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of one year’s relevant laboratory experience (degree or diploma preferred).
  • Good chemical knowledge and strong analytical skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Well‑developed planning, organisation and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Client‑focused mindset with a positive attitude toward safety.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in required technical assessments.
Quality Responsibilities
  • Ensure all testing and tasks comply with ALS quality systems and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure instrument maintenance is up to date.
  • Always uphold the integrity of data and laboratory processes.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Understand and comply with ALS HSE policies and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Follow appropriate precautions when working with samples of unknown hazard.
  • Report and address unsafe practices or environmental risks.
  • Actively contribute to a strong safety and sustainability culture.
  • Comply with all applicable OHS legislation.
