Laboratory Technician – Microbiology

About the Role

ALS Food & Pharmaceutical Division operates a modern laboratory in Rydalmere, Sydney. We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Microbiology team, where we strive to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time and maintaining strong client relationships.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with a science qualification or Lab Certificate IV, strong communication and organisational skills, and a commitment to quality, safety, and client service - along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This is a permanent, full-time supporting our team - Monday to Friday, 10:45am to 7:00 PM. Please note that there may be overtime hours as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform microbiological testing including Food, Pharmaceutical and/or Water sample preparation and testing 
  • Conduct extraction procedures and tasks per ALS Quality Work Instructions, ensuring QA/QC compliance.
  • Organize tasks for daily efficiency and meet set timelines and standards.
  • Report anomalies in results or samples to Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and timely laboratory records and documentation 
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) 
  • Assist in laboratory investigations and reporting 
  • Maintain housekeeping, calibrate equipment, and perform calculations for analyses.
  • Manage consumable stock and assist with additional duties.
  • Use calibrated equipment and follow ALS quality procedures.
  • Comply with ALS HSE policies, state OHS legislation, and safety manual.
  • Ensure lab safety, report compliance issues, and promote safety culture.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary education (a degree or diploma in science, preferably microbiology).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level attention to detail.
  • Good chemical knowledge.
  • Ability to work autonomously or in a team.
  • Ability to plan and organise work.
  • Judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude to safety requirements.
  • Appropriate level of aptitude on the tests allocated.
  • This role requires standing/moving around the lab and the ability to lift/ carry up to 15kg.
