Field Services Technician

This position is for an entry level field technician working for ALS Environmental out of the Rochester laboratory. We are looking for a full time, permanent addition, who works well in a team setting and an ever-changing environment.

The main focus of the field team is to manage sampling events in order to obtain ground water, surface water, soils and various other samples for subsequent analysis by the laboratory. This work is normally performed with modified Level D safety requirements (street clothes plus safety glasses, nitrile gloves and steel toed boots). These sampling projects occur at many larger industrial clients, MSWLFs and municipal sites throughout NYS. Most scope of work is mandated by the NYSDEC, USEPA or local County Agencies. Daily activities are almost exclusively outdoors 12 months out of the year and candidates must be willing to deal with changing conditions.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Desire to work outside every day
  • Ability to think on their feet
  • Must be insurable with a clean (no points) driver's license
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Willingness to travel overnight for various projects within NYS approximately 3 weeks per quarter (all travel expenses paid for by ALS)
This job requires detailed knowledge of all applicable sampling methods, equipment and techniques currently in use, site specific sampling protocols, ground water remediation systems, regulatory agency guidelines, water chemistry, field analytical methods, OSHA safety regulations, storm water management principles, ground water geology, hydrology, limnology, project planning and management and documentation required to properly complete a project. Another important responsibility our techs have is to effectively interact with our clients and various regulatory agency personnel on a routine basis.

The technician will receive supervised training and guidance in these areas to allow them to excel as an environmental sampling technician at ALS.
ALS provides paid time off, paid personal/sick leave, paid holiday time, medical, dental and vision plans, partial matching 401K, a company 4WD vehicle, required OSHA 40 Hour and all other applicable training courses paid for by ALS along with safety clothing, boots and safety eyewear. We generally work a flex schedule based on workload, weather and laboratory requirements.
