RESEARCHER ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Nouryon
Nouryon - Expert Capability Group - Regulation of chemicals used in different industrial and domestic applications requires thorough evaluation including their unambiguous identification and risk assessment for control of potential effect on health or environment. With this purpose, the physical & chemical properties of the chemicals, their environmental fate and (eco)toxicology behaviour must be fully understood. This evaluation is performed with the help of specific practical tests to generate the information required by the regulatory authorities.
Part of Nouryon’s Expert Capability Group (ECG), the Environmental Chemistry laboratory is specialized in performing environmental and physico-chemical tests according to international standard guidelines and under the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) quality system. Our knowledge on environmental and analytical chemistries ensures assessment of behaviour and properties of the chemicals under optimal conditions. Results from the environmental and physico-chemical testing and research find use in substance profiling including classification and labelling, registrations, notifications, risk assessments and contribute to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) production.
Are you a passionate analytical chemist with a strong background in chromatography? Do you have practical experience and enjoy providing technical solutions to a variety of analytical challenges? Are you interested in applying analytical technologies to the properties assessment of chemicals? If so, then we are looking for you!
RESEARCHER ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Our Deventer site comprises a knowledge center with over 200 highly qualified R&D employees. The site accommodates several independently operating research R&D laboratories and our department that provides support in analytical, material, and environmental sciences to the business worldwide. The business R&D teams and our group work as partners in the Business Innovation Teams, delivering expertise in various fields of science and technology that are critical to the business innovation programs. Furthermore, the Complex Organics Plant - a small production unit producing highly complex chemicals - is situated in Deventer.
Your challenges as Researcher Analytical Chemistry
As Researcher in Analytical Chemistry, you will independently as well as in teamwork prepare, execute, analyze and interpret guideline tests and research projects to investigate the physico-chemical properties of Nouryon’s substances and products (e.g. hydrolysis/solubility studies, evaluation partition coefficient). Next, you will analytically support the evaluation of environmental fate (biodegradation) and ecotoxicology behaviour of Nouryon’s chemicals. You will actively contribute to building know-how in the expertise team towards developments in the field of analytical chemistry/chromatography in relation with analyzing (low levels of) substances in complex (environmental) matrices.
Your responsibilities entail:
-
Performing hands-on laboratory work and general tasks necessary for laboratory operations;
-
Ensuring the correct functioning of instruments and analytical data system;
-
The daily operation of the physico-chemical tests and analytical support to the biodegradation and ecotoxicology studies;
-
Developing and implementing chromatographic methodologies for analysis of materials and products in support of the above projects;
-
Interacting with customers and other stakeholders including advice on best strategies for testing and regular communication during the studies;
-
Maintenance of GLP items and procedures for the tasks appointed;
-
As study director, prepare GLP physico-chemical study plans and test reports;
-
The quality and timely reporting of the results;
-
Gatekeeping the developments in the field of chromatography (and eventually other techniques) applicable for regulatory studies, especially in the area of complex substances (such as polymers or natural products) and of analysis at low levels in environmental matrices.
Have you got what it takes?
To qualify for the role, you have a clear affinity with analytical chemistry in a regulatory environment and you are open, enthusiastic and eager to take responsibilities.
Furthermore, you:
-
Own a bachelor’s degree with five years of experience or a master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or related disciplines.
-
Are experienced in Chromatography techniques GC/LC including method development and eventually in more advanced analyses like GC-MS, headspace GC, GC-SPME, LC-MS, Online-SPE, SEC, etc.
-
Preferably have experience in other analytical techniques such as IC, TOC, FTIR.
-
Are familiar with regulatory requirements and guideline testing in the field of physic-chemical and fate tests (e.g. OECD series 100).
-
Fully understand the Good Laboratory Practice principles and are GLP trained.
-
Are a motivated, positive and flexible person who can both work as team player and independently and is keen to learn and to participate in the challenges ahead.
-
Are accurate, have a hands-on mentality, and an analytical-, result- and customer-oriented mind set.
-
Can lead small projects, interact with clients, deal with deadlines and set priorities.
-
Have excellent communication and writing skills.
-
Are fluent in English (verbal and written) and Dutch (or willing to learn).
