- For Service, Technical Support, Marketing & Sales Roles: Additional compensation is available through either an Incentive and/or Commission Plan.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual in this position is responsible for a wide variety of service related support functions including, but not limited to, the repair, maintenance, and installation of Shimadzu Products. Additionally, responsibilities include the training and support of regional staff and less experienced personnel, as well as, other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
This position is responsible for the testing, repair, maintenance and installation of Mass Spec Products sold by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments anywhere within the company’s market area. Specific testing responsibility is to provide support for the in-house testing and configuration of GCMS, LCMS and related Mass Spec Products.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
The testing, repair, maintenance and installation of those Mass Spec products sold by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments or its representatives. (daily)
Providing technical service training to customers, service and technical support personnel. (daily)
Accurate documentation and reporting of all repairs and product failures and when applicable providing design change and improvement recommendations. (daily)
Assist in the development of preventative maintenance procedures for Shimadzu products as required. (weekly)
The maintenance and control of repair parts inventories within the position’s assigned region in accordance with the administrative policies as defined by the Service Center in Columbia, Maryland. (weekly)
Providing customers and other personnel with the necessary technical support (phone, fax, email, etc …) and documentation required to affect instrument repairs, maintenance and installations. (daily)
Repairing instruments returned to the Columbia Service Center in a timely manner and provide support to less experienced service personnel in performance of the same. (weekly)
Travel as required to provide service support to customers and other SSI personnel. (monthly)
Timely submission of all required paperwork and reports. (daily)
Ensure the distribution and implementation of technical bulletins. (weekly)
Communicate with Japan and if necessary travel there to receive advanced training. (quarterly)
Be the technical expert, within the service department at Corporate, regarding repairs and installation of Mass Spec instrumentation.
SCOPE:
This position's primary focus is to provide quality, efficient service to our customers and to support the other Service, Technical Support, and Sales & Marketing staff in the performance of the same. Will work directly for the Service Product Manager responsible for Chromatography/Mass Spec and will work in conjunction with Shimadzu Biotech Service Management as needed.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must be proficient at effectively troubleshooting and resolving instrument problems, performing installations, and providing, when necessary, customer and staff training. Incumbent must also be capable of successfully running standard samples, read and interpret the chromatograph displayed to determine if the instrument is functioning properly. Must be able to resolve basic applications/method development issues related customer problems, through exercising independent discretion and judgment based on learned industry scientific knowledge and company policies/protocol.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field is required. Incumbent must have at least five years of field exposure supporting Mass Spec instrumentation which includes – maintenance, repair, applications/standards, method development and technical support/training.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequent lifting or with other means for movement of instrumentation/parts. May include frequent bending, standing, stooping, walking, talking, sitting/driving for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of instrumentation/parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 20 pounds routinely throughout the work day. Incumbent must have use of hand to finger senses, in order to use and grasp hand tools to repair instrumentation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards in particular to lab safety protocol. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices as required by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures and/or customer dictated policy.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is home based and will require daily travel to customer locations and/or the regional office. The position requires the incumbent to have the ability to work alone on projects, as well as, collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at several different work sites during the course of a business day in order to support the needs of Shimadzu customers. Extra hours may periodically be required, in order to fulfill the functions required by this position. The position will include contact with SSI employees and outside customers that requires prompt and friendly handling of all related inquires.
