LAB MANAGER/LAB SPECIALIST
Job description:
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
This role will work in the Purification Process Sciences (PPS) group within the BioProcess Development (BPD) department serving as a lab manager. The person in this role will work closely within PPS and across other functions to maintain and manage the daily operation of the PPS labs. Main duties include:
Perform lab management activities across PPS labs including: Ensuring the placement of instruments and consumables to efficiently use lab space. Organize lab areas and shared lab equipment, create log books (Track system, change controls), data integrity of systems, Organization of laboratory hardware and buffer prep areas, ordering of consumables, routine maintenance of equipment (including AKTA and HPLC systems), maintain laboratory consumable inventory.
Serve as the point of contact for all lab equipment and will escort external vendors for onsite preventative maintenance (PM), prepare and send out equipment for PMs, communicate with to give computer access (if needed), and provide vendors with supplies needed for PM (buffers, etc).
The purification lab manager will maintain an updated new hire on-boarding package that includes an introduction to lab, best lab practices, lab citizenship, how-to guides, equipment use Logins, lab supply accounts, and shipping logistics.
As the point of contract for all lab equipment the purification lab manager will represent PPS in meetings with facilities and lab ops. Duties will also include coordinating routine freezer and cold room clean-outs. Additionally, the preparation of BSCs for maintenance will be required.
The purification lab manager will be the point for contact for SHE and will partake in safety walkthroughs and inspections, help increase safety compliance in labs, and take point on safety initiatives.
The purification lab manager will be the purification contact for Quality initiatives. Activities also include, coordinating lab preparation for AZ Annual Audits, ensuring compliance with GLS, Data Integrity, and Equipment SOPs.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- BS/BA with 5+ years or MS/MA with 2+ years experience preferred.
Required Skills:
Highly team-oriented, energetic, critical thinker, organized, capable of multitasking.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of common laboratory equipment operation and maintenance.
Familiar with safe laboratory practices.
Desired Skills:
Experience with common purification equipment (AKTA, HPLC, TFF systems, etc.).
Basic understanding of protein purification process development and purification lab operations.
Working with biotech quality organizations.
Prior lab management and organization experience highly desirable.
