LABORATORY SUPERVISOR - EMERALD QLD
Laboratory Supervisor required to join our team based in Emerald.
About the Position
- An opportunity exists for an Analytical Laboratory Supervisor to join our team based in Emerald. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the section in respect to quality, turnaround time, client service, productivity, and human resources.
Key Responsibilities:

Supervising staff within the section.

Allocation of section work priorities in consultation with the Operations Manager.

Efficient operation of the section to ensure work is completed on time with a high degree of accuracy.

Liaising with the mines coal quality and technical staff.

Minimising wastage of chemicals and consumables and reducing breakdowns and downtime.

Maintaining laboratory equipment: XRF, Proximate Ovens/Furnaces, Leco Sulfur, Leco CV.

Ongoing training and staff development to ensure high morale and retention.

Optimising turnaround time for samples whilst ensuring the highest quality of results is achieved and maintained.

Ensuring a high standard of housekeeping and presentation of all equipment and work areas.

Minimizing wastage of chemicals and consumables in the laboratory and reducing breakdowns and downtime.

Undertaking or instructing staff to undertake the periodic calibration of specified equipment in the section.

Checking and approving outgoing analytical data.

Ensuring QWIs and SOPs are followed.

Advising the Operations Manager of any possible ways to increase productivity and efficiency through equipment upgrading, method enhancements or implementation of new technology; any deficiencies in staff numbers, training, consumable stock and new products.

The cleanliness, housekeeping and presentation off all equipment and work areas.

Developing and fostering a good work ethic amongst staff to further reduce costs.
Skills/Qualifications:
-
A Tertiary qualification in Science, or a minimum of 2-5 years in a similar role would be an advantage.

Experience with equipment calibration and maintenance will be highly regarded.

An appropriate level of aptitude for the section to be supervised and appropriate supervisory skills.

A positive customer focus and quality service attitude.

Responsiveness.

Excellent planning and organisational skills with a strong focus on quality.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office.
