3. KONFERENCE ČESKÉ SPOLEČNOSTI PRO HMOTNOSTNÍ SPEKTROMETRII - Sborník abstraktů
Others | 2013 | Czech Mass Spectrometry Conferences (CSMS) | Czech Society for Mass SpectrometryInstrumentationIndustriesManufacturer
Mass spectrometry underpins modern analytical chemistry and life-science research. The 3rd Conference of the Czech Society for Mass Spectrometry assembled scientists from academia, industry and instrument manufacturers to share advances in instrumentation, novel ionization methods and applications ranging from fundamental ion chemistry to proteomics, metabolomics, food and environmental analysis, clinical diagnostics and bio-imaging.
Held 16–18 October 2013 at the Military Health Sciences Faculty in Hradec Králové, the conference featured plenary lectures, oral sessions on MS in ion chemistry, biology, organic analysis, food and environmental protection, clinical and pharmaceutical analysis, plus workshops and poster sessions. Leading experts presented 2 invited talks and over 60 contributions, with industrial workshops by Thermo Fisher, Shimadzu, AB SCIEX and Bruker.
Technologies highlighted included electrospray ionization, MALDI-MS, secondary electrospray ionization, SIFT-MS, dielectric barrier discharge plasma ionization, ion mobility spectrometry, high-resolution Orbitrap and TOF instruments, QTRAP and high-definition hybrid systems, and coupling techniques such as LC-MS, CE-MS and on-target enrichment.
Key topics ranged from gas-phase ion chemistry of organometallic and supramolecular complexes, membrane protein interactions, in-cell cross-linking, to advanced LC-MS workflows for multi-mycotoxin screening and high-throughput plant hormone profiling. Sessions on MS imaging and ambient ionization demonstrated rapid tissue mapping and real-time breath analysis. Quantitative phosphoproteomics, glycomic profiling of pathogens, and methods for metalloprotein characterization further illustrated MS versatility.
The presented methods improve trace-level quantitation, structural elucidation of labile ions, targeted and untargeted metabolite screening, and biomarker discovery. Enhanced sensitivity, faster imaging, and integrated ion mobility expand MS impact on quality control, drug metabolism, clinical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
Emerging directions include ultra-high-resolution and ultra-fast acquisition, in-situ sample preparation, on-line multidimensional separations, real-time volatile analysis, hybrid workflows combining small-molecule and proteomic assays, and bioinformatics tools for big data integration. Continued advances in ambient and in-vacuo ion activation promise deeper insights into biomolecular structure and function.
The conference fostered multidisciplinary exchange, showcasing mass spectrometry’s evolving role in science and industry. Participants gained exposure to state-of-the-art technologies and collaborative approaches that will drive future innovations in analytical chemistry.
