Clinical Diagnostics is more than collecting data it is turning that data into better patient care.  At Waters Clinical we understand the importance of your results and the work you do, this is why we are dedicating an entire organization to improve our total solution offerings.

In this presentation you will discover the changes we have made in our organization and the new MassTrak solutions to help you maintain compliance while providing flexibility and performance.

You will also be able to explore the journey of the sample through an automated LC/MS workflow from sample receipt to the reporting of results back into a LIMS. The advantages of automation are discussed, along with automation options for the clinical LC/MS workflow based on different laboratory needs. Sample tracking is a key part of any workflow and have been considered in all automated options shown, including other important requirements to ease the extraction and analysis process for the analyst.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover Waters Total Clinical Diagnostics Workflow
  • Meet our new MassTrak IVD System Solutions
  • Learn why automation is important for LC/MS workflows
  • Understand what can be automated in LC/MS workflows
  • See how automation can improve analytical performance and productivity

Presenter: Victoria Starkie (Principal Product Marketing Manager Mass Spectrometry, Waters Corporation)

Vicky Starkie graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) with a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Chemistry. Vicky studied part-time to gain her qualifications whilst working in industry resulting in over 25 years’ experience in a range of analytical techniques.

Vicky started her career as a technician in a small contract research organisation (CRO) where she gained experience in developing HPLC methods and working to GLP. Vicky later joined AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals as a DMPK scientist where she gained experience using LC-MS/MS for bioanalysis in both Discovery and Development, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic studies. Following her love of Mass Spectrometry Vicky then moved into a toxicology role managing a workplace and medico legal laboratory specialising in hair analysis by LC-MS/MS and gained ISO 17025 accreditation.

For the last 8 years Vicky has been working at Waters in a variety of roles supporting Clinical Diagnostic and Forensic Toxicology customers providing pre and post-sales application support. In January 2021 Vicky joined the product management and marketing team and is passionate about developing LC-MS/MS solutions that support the future needs of Clinical customers.

Presenter: Robert Wardle (Senior Scientist, Clinical Scientific Operations, Waters Corporation)

Robert Wardle is currently a Senior Scientist employed at Waters Corporation in Wilmslow, UK, performing research and development of applications and products for Clinical Research.  His primary area of research is vitamins and in particular vitamin D metabolites, steroid hormones and in-depth knowledge of offline and online automation.

Robert joined Waters in 2010 as a Clinical Validation Scientist, playing a key role in verification activities for the MassTrak XE Immunosuppressants kit available in the EU. He moved into his current role as a Senior Scientist in 2013, where he developed methods for a range of applications including vitamin D metabolites, estrogens and a large panel of steroid hormones, where he also looked at the complete LC-MS/MS workflow of these application areas through offline automation.
