Session 1 (30 min): Improving the Robustness of LC-MS/MS Methods for Multi-Mycotoxins Analysis

Multi-toxin methods, using LC-MS/MS, are now commonly used for the determination of a wide range of regulated, “modified” and emerging mycotoxins in a variety of agricultural commodities and finished products. Modern, sensitive instruments can cope with the “dilute and shoot” approach that allows analysts to produce results in the most rapid manner. However, such continuous analysis of a wide range of different complex samples may necessitate implementing timely interventions for planned system maintenance or be faced with an unexpected loss of performance requiring immediate attention and often repeat analysis.

In this talk, you will learn how to implement different strategies for improving the robustness of your multi-toxins method, thus improving lab efficiency. We will present a toolkit of solutions tailored for the specific needs of your lab, starting from compliance testing of small groups of mycotoxins to meet regulatory criteria, to large multi-toxins methods.

Session 2 (30 min): A UPLC-MS/MS Method for the Determination of Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids in Botanicals

With the new Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/2040 entering into force in July 2022, all food companies producing specified food products for sale in the European Union must ensure that these products do not exceed maximum limits for the sum of 35 pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs).

Many laboratories have already implemented methods for the analysis of PAs.

In this talk, we will explore our solution based on UPLC-MS/MS for the quantification of 35 PAs in various food commodities. We will discuss method performance, including the separation of isomeric compounds and their N-oxide metabolites.
