Thermo Scientific: Sample Prep and IC-MS/MS Workflows for Anionic and Cationic Pesticides

Welcome to Thermo Fisher Scientific's 2022 Transforming pesticide analysis with GC-MS, IC-MS, LC-MS, and data analysis e-seminar series. In this four-part eSeminar Series, we address the advances and new trends in pesticide residues analysis so that you can be well-equipped to stay ahead of developing challenges.

Join us for the second webinar in this series.

Sample Prep and IC-MS/MS Workflows for Anionic and Cationic Pesticides

Section 1: Sample preparation challenges and solutions for pesticides residue analysis. Sample extraction is the start of any analytical chromatography process and in food this can be more than a little challenging, discover some tips and tricks to help you get ahead.

Section 2: Ionic polar pesticides include some of the most frequently used pesticides worldwide but also present unique challenges to traditional methods of pesticide analysis.

Traditional extraction methods typically suffer from low extraction efficiency of highly ionic polar pesticides and RPLC methods have very poor retention of highly ionic polar pesticides. Advances in the analysis of these target analytes has led to an increase in testing and regulation, driven primarily by anionic polar pesticides such as glyphosate and glufosinate.

For cationic pesticides such as paraquat and diquat (quats) analytical method developments have lagged due to poor chromatographic resolution of the paraquat – diquat pair and often requiring high resolution accurate mass spectrometers.

This webinar will recap on polar pesticide analysis utilizing ion chromatography, including the inclusion of IC-MS/MS as an EURL-SRM, as well as introducing the New Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ CS21 fast-4um column designed for the analysis of cationic pesticides (diquat, paraquat, clormequat, mepiquat, and others) in food, beverages, agricultural products, soil and environmental samples by IC-MS/MS or IC-HRAM-MS. No derivatization required. Join us for the second webinar in this series.

Presenter: Wai-Chi Man (Product Marketing Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Wai-Chi has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific for more than eight years working with a wide range of customers in various industries. She provides ion chromatography (IC) support in method development, troubleshooting, sample preparation, training, seminars, events, and workshops. During this time, she has gained deep knowledge, skill, and understanding in areas such as IC-MS, IC-ICP-MS, carbohydrate analysis, metabolomics, and polar pesticides. Prior to joining the company, she worked for Wellcome Research and GlaxoSmithKline. Wai is passionate about promoting STEM to future scientists by encouraging, nurturing, and supporting them.

Presenter: Ken Meadows (Product Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Ken Meadows has held technical and application roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific and worked in the chromatography industry for over 15 years, developing, optimizing, and improving sample preparation as a part of full workflow solutions covering HPLC, GC and Mass Spectrometry.
