SelectScience: Democratizing proteomics with standardized automated sample preparation

Break free from the time, cost, and complexity of manual proteomics sample preparation. This webinar will discuss the challenges of automated proteomics sample preparation and what is needed to overcome these so that scientists can achieve high-quality experimental results and focus their time on more valuable tasks. Attributes such as ease-of-use, experimental design, flexible workflows, and integration into existing proteomics infrastructure will be discussed.

Plus, learn how automated proteomics sample preparation has optimized the pipeline of samples for mass spectrometry analysis at a biopharmaceutical company, Genentech, as well as for clinical research applications at the Mayo Clinic.

Key learning objectives
  • Discover how to standardize proteomics sample preparation
  • Learn about automation of tandem mass tag (TMT) multiplexing workflows
  • Discover automation of label-free proteomics samples
  • Understand the key performance metrics for robust proteomics sample preparation

Presenter: Taylur Ma (Genentech, Inc)

Taylur Ma has worked at Genentech, within the department of Microchemistry, Proteomics, Lipidomics and Next Generation Sequencing (MPL-NGS) for the past 11 years. The MPL-NGS department collaborates with researchers in therapeutic areas to understand which proteins and pathways are important for therapy development. In her role, one of Taylur’s focuses is to support small molecule drug discovery efforts in the early research and development phases. In doing so, she has implemented cutting-edge chemoproteomic workflows that characterize small molecule and protein target interactions coupled with bottom-up proteomic mass spectrometry. More recently, she has been investigating automation strategies to streamline protocols as a goal for improving quality and throughput.

Presenter: Dong-Gi Mun (Mayo Clinic)

Dong-Gi Mun joined Dr. Akhilesh Pandey’s lab at the Mayo Clinic in 2018. For the past 4 years, he has focused on the development of proteomics technologies that can provide novel insights on biological questions from various types of clinical samples. He became aware of the limitations of the current platforms when processing large numbers of clinical samples. This has led him to investigate automation platforms to increase analytical throughput and reproducibility in sample preparation both for label-free and TMT-based multiplexing approaches. He aims to apply automation platforms on serum samples from cholangiocarcinoma patients to discover potential novel biomarkers.

Presenter: Blake Forman (SelectScience)

Blake studied chemistry at the University of Surrey, UK, and further went on to study a master’s in chemistry at the University of Southampton, UK. Blake has previously worked in the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) lab at LGC and as a technical sales specialist for Waters. As a member of the Editorial team, he now plays an integral role in shaping the content on SelectScience.
