Waters Corporation: Trace-level Targeted Analysis for PFAS: The Challenges, and Best Practices for Success

As studies on PFAS continue to advance, the analytical technology used to support research and testing continues to advance.

Detection requirements for PFAS have been getting more challenging as advisory and regulatory limits are constantly being updated. Not only a highly sensitive LC-MS/MS platform essential, but background contamination must be controlled. We will discuss advances in LC-MS/MS technology with enhancements in negative ion sensitivity from the Xevo TQ Absolute Mass Spectrometer, as well as tools for data management with waters_connect software, and provide insights on controlling laboratory background. Waters comprehensive PFAS analysis support allows for detection of target compounds at ultra-trace concentrations along with easier, more robust, and accurate options as PFAS analysis continues into the future.

Key Learning Topics

  • Improvements in sensitivity using negative ion detection

  • Developing and successfully implementing an LC-MS/MS method

  • Tools for managing data (isomers, isotopes and more)

Who should attend

  • PFAS Program Managers

  • Laboratory Managers

  • Analytical Scientists

  • Quality Assurance Managers

Presenter: Gordon Fujimoto (PhD Group Leader, Chemical Analysis Applications, Waters Corporation)

Gordon Fujimoto is in Waters' Americas mass spectrometry demonstration lab. He has worked on customer applications for twenty years for Waters. Currently, he is working with customers in the food, environment and materials areas on mass spectrometry applications.
