This presentation evaluates how improvements in scan speed, flexibility in combining acquisition modes including mild trapping, software for faster data processing, and ease of use, provide increased confidence in the targeted and non-targeted analysis of LC-amenable pesticide residues in food.

Results of analysis of samples of varying matrix complexity using different combinations of data acquisition modes: full-scan, AIF, fw-DIA and t-SIM, at different resolving powers will be presented. The fast scan speed and unique flexibility of acquisition underpin the detection and identification of an increased number of pesticides at low µg/kg levels, even for the more complex matrices.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how new acquisition workflows can improve selectivity and increase confidence in the quantitation and identification of pesticide residues in food
  • Learn how the ease of use of the Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap™ Exploris™ HRAM platform can improve sample throughput
  • Discover how to improve your results for the targeted and non-targeted analysis of pesticides in food

Presenter: Prof Amadeo Rodriguez Fernandez-Alba (Head of the European Union Reference Laboratory for Pesticide Residues in Fruit & Vegetables, University of Almeria, Ctra. Sacramento s/n, La Cañada de San Urbano, 04120-ALMERÍA)

Amadeo Fernandez-Alba is a Full Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Almeria, Spain. Since 2006 he has been the Head of the European Reference Laboratory for Pesticide Residues in Fruits and Vegetables (EURL-FV eurl-pesticides.eu). His EURL responsibilities include building the network of official laboratories, providing assistance and training to National Reference Laboratories (NRLs), developing methods for pesticide residue analysis, organizing EU Proficiency Tests, drafting and updating the EU guidelines (SANTE/11945/2015) on method validation and quality control procedures for pesticides residues analysis in food and feed. He serves on many national and international committees and is a leading authority on the application of High Resolution Mass spectrometry to pesticide residues analysis. He has contributed to more than 20 book chapters and authored and co-authored more than 250 scientific publications.

Presenter: Lukasz Rajski (Senior Chemist, University of Almeria, Ctra. Sacramento s/n, La Cañada de San Urbano, 04120-ALMERÍA)

Lukasz Rajski holds a PhD in analytical chemistry. Since 2011 he has been a researcher in the European Union Reference Laboratory for Pesticide Residues in Fruits and Vegetables, EURL-FV, at the University of Almería in Spain. He is an expert in the development and validation of analytical methods for pesticide residues in food. Dr. Rajski works with advanced mass spectrometry techniques (both high resolution and triple quadrupole) coupled to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and high-performance ion chromatography. His main scientific interest is focused on the application of orbitrap mass spectrometry and time of flight mass spectrometry for pesticide residue analysis. He also takes part in the organization of the European Union Proficiency Tests (EUPTs). Lukasz Rajski is a co-author of numerous articles published in scientific journals with high impact factor and book chapters dedicated to pesticide residue analysis.
