MOISTURE MATTERS: ACCURATE WATER DETERMINATION IN BATTERY MATERIALS
Overview:
Water impacts battery materials at various levels, ranging from the molecular structure to overall performance. It can react with salts, causing corrosion and short circuiting and, ultimately, a reduction in battery life. Karl Fischer titration, known for its accuracy in measuring trace amounts of water, is an ideal method for monitoring water content in various battery components. This includes not only cathode and anode raw materials, but also electrolytes and separators used in the battery manufacturing process.
During this webinar, Dr. Roman Neufeld, Sr. Research Scientist from Honeywell, will discuss recommended coulometric KF reagents for battery electrolytes with and without reactive additives. Michael Margreth, Sr. Product Specialist Titration at Metrohm International Headquarters, will discuss how to analyze solid battery materials using Karl Fischer oven methodology.
Key Learning Objectives:
Learn how to analyze battery liquid samples for moisture and avoid side reactions with special KF reagents.
Understand how the KF Oven technique works for solid materials.
Who Should Attend:
QC analysts performing KF titration on battery raw materials, electrolytes, and separators.
R&D scientists searching for improvements on their research projects.
Anyone from the battery market wanting to learn about how important this analysis is for their materials and products.
Presenter: Dr. Roman Neufeld (Senior Research Scientist, Honeywell)
Roman works as a Senior Research Scientist, leading the development
of new and innovative Karl Fischer (KF) reagents. As one of the major
experts in the KF water determination methodology, he also provides superior
support to a global customer base on technical queries and application
development for KF titration. His newest patent-pending development
includes the first commercially available alcohol-and imidazole-free KF reagents for
highly accurate water determination in modern lithium-ion battery electrolytes.
Presenter: Michael Margreth (Senior Product Specialist, Metrohm Schweiz AG)
Michael Margreth is a Senior Product Specialist for Karl Fischer titration at Metrohm International Headquarters in Herisau, Switzerland. Previously, he worked as Application Specialist for Titration at Metrohm AG. He studied chemistry at the University of Basel, Switzerland and at the FHBB in Muttenz, Switzerland. He obtained his degree in chemistry and joined Metrohm in 2005.
