Waters Corporation: SEC Column Selection and Care for Biotherapeutic Proteins & Peptides

Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is a commonly used technique throughout the research, development, and commercialization of biotherapeutic proteins and peptides.

The key to successful SEC methods begins with selecting an appropriate SEC column, based on application need and LC instrumentation, and separation method to generate reliable quantitative data.

This webinar will provide an overview on how to select an appropriate SEC column for your application and separation challenges. It will also review how to maximize SEC column life, ways to address concerns if, and when, they arise, and technology that reduces non-desired protein to SEC particle / column secondary interactions.

Topics:
  • Four steps in determining an appropriate SEC column based on application and LC instrumentation
  • SEC method development
  • Overcoming non-desired protein and column secondary interactions
  • Is a platform SEC method possible?
  • Considerations to maximize SEC column life

Presenter: Mary Trudeau (Consulting Scientist and Manager of the Sample Prep and Automation group, Waters Corporation)

Mary Trudeau is a Consulting Scientist and manager for the Sample Preparation group within the Consumable and Lab Automation Division. Following a successful career in pharma with Pfizer, Mary joined Waters in 2011. She is responsible for developing and optimizing methods and workflows to address customer pain points across multiple market segments. Her team’s primary focus has been developing and highlighting automated sample preparation bioanalytical ADME/DMPK workflows for both small and large molecules.

Presenter: Bill Warren (Principal Consultant Product Manager, Waters Corporation)

In 1986, Bill joined Waters Corporation as a senior applications chemist involved with the research and development of HPLC, FPLC, and Capillary Electrophoresis applications for the analysis and purification of proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids. He currently is a Principal Consulting Bio separations Product Manager whose responsibilities involve assisting in the development and commercialization of innovative reagents and chromatography-based technologies for the separation, purification, and characterization of proteins and peptides.

Presenter: Stephan M. Koza, Ph.D. (Consulting Scientist, Waters Corporation)

Stephan has worked at Waters Corporation for over 10 years and has a primary focus on the use of LC, LC-MS, and sample preparation chemistries and columns for the analysis of biomolecules. Prior to joining Waters, he had nearly twenty years of experience with biopharmaceutical characterization and analytical method development with Genetics Institute, Wyeth, and Pfizer. Stephan received his doctorate in analytical chemistry at the University of New Hampshire.

Presenter: Leslie Napoletano (Principal Product Marketing Manager, Waters Corporation)

Leslie has been with Waters since 2012 providing support and education to scientists in New Jersey with Waters chemistry consumables including sample preparation, column selection and delivering educational seminars to customers. More recently in 2021, Leslie has moved into the Product Marketing group focusing on bringing on new consumable products for protein characterization. Prior to joining Waters, Leslie worked as a scientist in protein characterization in the pre-clinical development of monoclonal antibodies at Merck and prior to that at Teva as a R&D chemist.
