ThermoFisher Scientific: High throughput protein profiling for cancer research by Orbitrap Astral MS

The new Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer is setting a new standard for mass spectrometry performance, redefining what is possible and unlocking additional insights into biology and disease mechanisms.

The ability to conduct large cohort protein analysis with faster throughput, deeper coverage, higher sensitivity and accurate and precise quantitation enables a better understanding of the dynamic, temporal and spatial complexities of biology.

In this interactive webinar, we will briefly introduce underlying technology of the Orbitrap Astral mass spectrometry platform before opening the floor to a group of renowned cancer researchers who will describe their own early experiences with the system and their hopes and ambitions for advancing their own researches in this important and rapidly-advancing field.

As a participants in this webinar, you will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive panel discussion with these key opinion leaders and ask questions to further enhance your understanding of the current and future state of mass spectrometry-driven proteome analysis of cancer samples and how that can identify differentially expressed proteins, protein-protein interactions and post-translational modifications that may be associated with cancer development, progression, or response to treatment.

What you will learn:

  • View the latest research in protein profiling
  • Learn about the Orbitrap mass spectrometry solutions
  • Discover how your cancer research can be empowered

Who should attend?

  • Scientific researchers in the field of cancer proteomics
  • Mass spectrometrists working in core labs in cancer institutes
  • Laboratory managers in cancer institutes

If you have questions for our experts, please submit them during registrations or send them anytime in advance via email to [email protected]

Live questions will be handled during the webinar in our Q&A chat.

Presenter: Dr. Christian Hock (Senior Manager Instrument Development, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

The Orbitrap Astral development team is led by Dr. Christian Hock, who joined the Research team of Dr. Alexander Makarov as Lead Scientist in early 2013. With a strong passion for science and an innate curiosity, Dr. Hock has been involved in all aspects of Astral technology development, from its initial stages of basic research to its successful transition into serial production.

In 2017, Dr. Hock transferred to the Bremen R&D organization, where he took the initiative to establish a dedicated R&D team which has been instrumental in bringing the Orbitrap Astral product to fruition. His overarching goal is to exceed customer expectations by delivering cutting-edge products that enable researchers worldwide to accelerate their scientific output. Through his leadership and expertise, he continuously pushes the boundaries of science & technology and strives for excellence in every stage of product development.

Presenter: Prof. Michiel Vermeulen (Senior Group Leader, Netherlands Cancer Institure NKI)

Presenter: Dr. Harmjan Vos (Head of the Proteomics Facility, University Medical Centre Utrecht)

Started his proteomics career as a postdoc in a project of Jeroen Krijgsveld in the lab of Albert Heck at the UU. Then he moved to the lab of Boudewijn Burgering at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) at the UMC Utrecht, trying to understand the intricate connections between cellular signaling pathways and metabolic processes. Since 2014 he is heading the Proteomics facility at CMM, which is involved in the research infrastructure of the Oncode Institute, with an emphasis on single cell proteomics.

Presenter: Prof. Jyoti Choudhary (Group Leader, The Institute of Cancer Research)

Professor Jyoti Choudhary's research focuses on the development and implementation of novel mass spectrometry and data analysis approaches for proteome discovery. She is Head of the Proteomics Core Facility and Career Faculty Leader of the Functional Proteomics Research Group.

Presenter: Dr. Joanna Kirkpatrick (Technical Sales Specialist, Proteomics, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Jo has a degree in Chemistry from the University of York and a PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Reading. Following a post-doc in mass spectrometry in the Chemistry department at Oxford, and working as an application scientist at Waters, she has worked in and ran Proteomics Core Facilities in the UK and Germany, including the EMBL in Heidelberg, the Leibniz Institute on Aging in Jena, The Francis Crick Institute in London and CRUK Cambridge.

After many years as an experienced Thermo customer, Jo joined the company last year as a Technical Sales Specialist, supporting the whole of the UK/Ireland, Benelux and Nordic regions, in all things proteomics.

When she's not talking about proteomics and mass spectrometry, Jo enjoys ceroc dancing, tennis, scuba diving, travelling, and spending time with her cats, who like to join in on Teams meetings whenever she works from home.
