Many chromatographers experience difficulty retaining and separating polar analytes. This will often require reanalysis using alternative methods or changing column chemistries. The pain can be minimized by understanding the mechanisms for polar analyte retention and using the proper column designed for these difficult separations.

Chris Collins, Ph.D. earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from North Carolina State University in 2014. He has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on LC/MS Method Development. Chris started working at Waters Corporation in 2018 as a Chemistry Account Manager for North Carolina/South Carolina. In August, he transitioned to the role of Principal Product Marketing Manager for ACQUITY UPLC columns, UHPLC columns, Guards, and MaxPeak Premier Column Technology.
