Thermo Scientific: It Takes a Lot of Water to Turn Oil into Gold
Thermo Scientific: It Takes a Lot of Water to Turn Oil into Gold

Water is a vital resource for refineries and petrochemical plants. Supporting processes that pre-treat crude oil, remove and recover sulfur, and prevent corrosion, catalyst poisoning, and fouling are vital to keep operations running efficiently and safely.

Maintaining optimal water chemistry requires many measurements for multiple analytes. We will discuss a variety of topics including: which technology provides the best measurement and throughput for your needs; what other automated techniques can be applied in place of traditional wet chemistry methods, such as titration, to reduce error and hazards; and how the combination of discrete analyzer and ion chromatography (Disc-IC) solves routine and comprehensive water analysis problems.

Presenter: Hari Narayanan (Product Marketing Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Dr. Hari Narayanan has nearly 20 years of experience in managing research activities and applications development. He collaborates with regulatory agencies and has been part of several new method developments. He is well-versed in multivariate analysis, sample preparation, titration, ion chromatography, combustion IC, molecular spectroscopy (FTNIR, FTIR, RAMAN, and UV), and voltammetry. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Madurai Kamaraj University and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Madras, India.

Presenter: Kirk Chassaniol (Manager, Application Scientists, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Kirk is currently a technical leader in the Ion Chromatography (IC) field support group within the North American Centers of Excellence. Over the last 28 years, he has been involved in IC application and customer support in sales and marketing roles. He has helped with the development of IC methods and standards for chloride and sulfate in ethanol, cations in hydrogen cell feed gas, and combustion IC within the ASTM D02 and D03 Elemental Analysis subcommittee.
