Presenter: Dr. Wei Gao (The Dow Chemical Company)
Dr. Gao is a R&D and TS&D Fellow in Analytical Science, Core R&D of Dow. She has made significant contributions on polymer and particle characterization using separation-based analytical techniques, sustainable polymeric product development, and has received numerous awards, including the US EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards and R&D 100 awards. Gao is an active member of the American Chemical Society and leads advanced biodegradation platform development at Dow.
Presenter: Prof. Stepan Podzimek (University of Pardubice and SYNPO)
Prof. Podzimek holds a professorial position at the University of Pardubice and is a head of the Analytical Chemistry department at the Czech R&D company SYNPO. He is also a scientific consultant for Wyatt technology focusing on applications of multi-angle light scattering for the characterization of all types of synthetic and natural polymers. He has authored over 70 scientific papers and the author of a book entitled “Light Scattering, Size Exclusion Chromatography and Asymmetric Flow Field Flow Fractionation”.
Presenter: Prof. Timothy Lodge (University of Minnesota)
Prof. Lodge is a Regents Professor and the Prager Chair in Macromolecular Science at the University of Minnesota. He is renowned for his research on polymer systems, particularly in the areas of polymer characterization and nanostructures. Lodge has received numerous prestigious awards, including the American Chemical Society's Award in Polymer Chemistry, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Presenter: Prof. Matthew Golder (University of Washington)
Matt received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Rochester in 2010 working with Prof. Patrick Holland. Following graduation, he was a graduate student in the lab of Prof. Ramesh Jasti at Boston University/University of Oregon where he earned his PhD in 2015. Matt was then an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in Prof. Jeremiah Johnson’s laboratory at MIT. He began his independent career in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Washington in 2019. His group works at the interface of physical organic and polymer chemistries to explore novel structural motifs for solving broad challenges across materials science.
Presenter: Prof. Phil Griffin (University of Chicago)
Dr .Griffin is an Engineering and Design, Sr. Specialist and Director of the Soft Matter Laboratory at the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago. He supports multiple groups across the university as well as external universities and companies in their investigations into the design and development of advanced materials. He also instructs a graduate-level laboratory course focused on soft materials and regularly guest lectures in other Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering courses.
Presenter: Dr. Peng Zhang (USP)
Dr. Peng Zhang is a Principal Scientist at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) in Rockville, MD. In his current role, he is primarily responsible for standard setting activities related to the development and update of high-priority excipient quality standards, including those for lactide (or lactic acid) and glycolide (or glycolic acid) (LG) polymers and phospholipids, under the Excipient Expert Committees. Before joined USP, he worked as an analytical scientist in the pharmaceutical industry for 10 years. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University.
