In California, where medicinal and recreational cannabis has been legalized, quality and safety testing is a regulatory requirement. Out of all the mandated safety and compliance tests in California, residual pesticide and mycotoxin analyses are particularly challenging due to the highly complex cannabis flower matrix and the challenging low maximum-allowable action levels imposed for each analyte class.

Agilent has developed a combined extraction procedure for both pesticides and mycotoxins, which provides high pesticide and mycotoxin sample preparation recoveries combined with a robust LC/MS/MS analytical methodology to achieve these challenging testing California requirements. Complimenting these methodologies and completing an ‘end to end’ workflow are new software review tools and reporting templates that have been developed to allow output of results in an appropriate format for reporting purposes.  This presentation will describe and detail this complete workflow.

Presenter: Pete Stone (Senior LC/MS Applications Scientist, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)

Dr. Peter JW Stone is a Senior LC/MS Applications Scientist at Agilent Technologies. He has 20+ years within HP/Agilent of experience working with many small molecule applications related to the Pharmaceutical, Environmental, Food Safety, Clinical and Forensic application areas among others. Currently, the challenges of analyzing for quality and safety with regards to cannabis products consume his time.
