Addressing the (EU) 2020/2184 Directive for the Performant Determination of Polar and Non-Polar Pesticide Panels Using a Common Reverse Phase LC-MS/MS Configuration

RECORD | Already taken place We, 19.3.2025
Two LC/MS workflows for determination of polar and non-polar pesticides in drinking water are described, both using a standard C18 reverse phase chromatography setup.

Agilent Technologies: Watertight Analytical Workflows to Meet EU Directive 2020-2184
Agilent Technologies: Watertight Analytical Workflows to Meet EU Directive 2020-2184

We describe two drinking water LC/MS workflows to cover, i) panels of classic pesticides, and ii) underivatized polar pesticides, both using a standard C18 reverse phase chromatography setup. The classic pesticide method also includes the determination of the microcystin-LR toxin whilst the polar pesticides workflow requires minimal sample preparation without the need for sample derivatization.

The workflows are designed to meet both EU and UK water testing requirements and exploit the industry leading sensitivity of the 6495D LC/TQ exemplifying how multi-residue analysis can be most efficiently achieved using the same chromatography and MS detection system.

Presenter:  Day Powell (Field Application Specialist, Agilent Technologies)

Day has worked for Agilent as an Environmental Application Specialist for over a year, before this he worked for United Utilities (UU) as a Technical Specialist responsible for developing new methodologies for both LC/MS and GC/MS applications. Day has worked with PFAS for several years and helped UU to UKAS accredit a novel method for 47 PFAS in drinking water using direct injection to address the latest DWI regulations.
