Waters Corporation: Practical Insights for Electrophoretic Light Scattering (ELS), Zeta Potential, and Size Analysis

Characterizing particle size and surface charge, including zeta potential, is essential for applications in biopharmaceuticals and nanoparticle research.

This webinar introduces the fundamentals of Electrophoretic Light Scattering (ELS), focusing on measuring charge properties and particle stability. Through case studies, we will explore how ELS and complementary light scattering techniques support formulation development, aggregation screening, and stability assessments. Discussions will cover common challenges in zeta potential measurements and strategies for ensuring reliable data. Additionally, we will highlight recent advancements in ELS instrumentation that enable scientists to automate measurements and obtain high-quality results with greater efficiency reproducibility.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Analytical Techniques: Gain knowledge on advanced light scattering for characterizing charge and zeta potential.
  • Case Studies: Explore real-world applications of light scattering techniques in assessing the quality and stability of LNPs and antibodies.
  • Transfer to your lab: Learn the latest innovation in ELS/DLS/SLS instrumentations that can be useful for you research.

Who Should Attend:

  • Scientists focused on nanoparticles (including LNPs, antibodies, and inorganic nanoparticles) to evaluate stability and aggregation.
  • Lifelong learners who are looking to explore new techniques and best practices.
  • Lab Managers looking to understand state-of-the-art instruments that enhance analytical capabilities.

Presenter: Christopher Siefe, Ph.D. (Waters | Wyatt Technology)

Chris Siefe joined Wyatt Technology in 2022 and currently serves as a Senior Scientist on the Customer Service and Support team. He provides application support and training for customers in a broad array of fields in addition to conducting internal training and producing a wide variety of technical documentation. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara and completed his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University with a research emphasis on the synthesis, design, and optical characterization of luminescent nanoparticles, primarily for bioimaging applications.

Presenter: Richard Chung (Waters | Wyatt Technology)

Richard Chung is a Technical Product Manager at Wyatt Technology, bringing years of expertise in light scattering and analytical instrumentation. Since joining Wyatt in 2016, he has held key roles, including Application Scientist and Customer Support Manager, where he worked closely with researchers to solve complex analytical challenges. Now, as a Product Manager, Richard bridges the gap between scientists and better instruments—gathering insights from the field and collaborating with internal research teams to develop cutting-edge solutions that empower laboratories worldwide.
