Compound Discoverer Webinar: Probing Metabolite Utilization and Growth in Pathogenic Microbes

RECORD | Already taken place Sa, 31.12.2022
Certain pathogens show increased biomass with SCFAs. This webinar explores how untargeted stable isotope-resolved metabolomics and Thermo Compound Discoverer software help study this effect.

Thermo Fisher Scientific: Compound Discoverer Webinar: Probing Metabolite Utilization and Growth in Pathogenic Microbes

A sub-class of pathogenic microbes exhibit drastically increased biomass accumulation when supplemented with short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This phenomenon was probed via untargeted stable isotope resolved untargeted metabolomics leveraging Thermo Scientific Compound Discoverer software.

Metabolites presenting fold changes as well as downstream isotopic enrichment from a 13C2 acetate substrate were used to inform on this unusual phenomenon and increase our understanding of the microbe’s pathogenic mechanism.

Watch this webinar and learn:
  • How to study biological metabolism with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry
  • How to perform untargeted stable isotope labeling experiments
  • About advanced tools for analyzing and reporting untargeted stable isotope labeling data

Presenter: Juan Moises Sanchez (Scientist, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub at Stanford University)

Juan Moises Sanchez holds BS and MS degrees in Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering, respectively, from the University of Texas at El Paso. Additionally, he earned an MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. He is an experienced scientist passionate about stable isotope resolved metabolomics, translational medicine, and entrepreneurship.
