The Problem

Lipid nanoparticle concentration is a critical parameter to know about every batch of particles, but current methods can’t keep up with high throughput, require dilutions that impact accuracy, or are just plain slow. Keeping particles the right size is everyone’s goal for LNPs, but picking up on all the aggregates in a sample just doesn’t happen when you’re measuring at only one angle. Even just gathering size data on every sample is a challenge when many dynamic light scattering (DLS) instruments are stuck measuring samples one at a time. When it comes to quantifying payloads most solutions rely on complicated disruption workflows, costly dyes, and wasteful standard curves. UV/Vis absorbance has been around forever for quantification in purified samples, but the high turbidity of LNPs makes samples too cloudy for analysis. Getting answers on just these 3 parameters can take ages and hundreds of microliters of sample.

The Solution

Stunner is the only platform that pairs up intelligent, short pathlength UV/Vis with rotating angle DLS (RADLS) to give you particle concentration, size and total RNA quant – in under two minutes using only 2 µL sample. No need for dilutions, standards, or fluorescent dyes – all of Stunner’s RADLS and UV/Vis data is gathered in a 96-well plate format without any complex workflow, dyes, or standards.

Taegen loves marketing life science tools. He has over 15 years of experience using and marketing enabling life science instrumentation and consumables. As the Director of Pharmaceutical Segment Marketing at Agilent Technologies, he led the marketing organization focused on the company’s largest customer segment, which has experienced consistent, above-market growth rates and 2014 sales revenues of $1B.

Over his 7 years at Agilent, Taegen was the Product Manager for Proteomics and Protein Chemistries and also led the Life Science group’s efforts in the area of protein therapeutics. He began his career at Berlex Biosciences, now a part of Bayer Healthcare, running mass spectrometers and developing assays to measure drug passage across the blood brain barrier.

Taegen has an M.B.A. in Marketing from St. Mary’s College of California and a B.S. in Biotechnology from the University of California, Davis. Taegen is married with two children, loves mountain biking, camping, fishing, golfing and is a huge fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.
