SCIEX: Metabolomics during the Drug Discovery: Master class and roundtable discussion
SCIEX: Metabolomics during the Drug Discovery: Master class and roundtable discussion

Despite the incredible advances in metabolomics, translating vast amounts of untargeted data into meaningful biological insights remains a major challenge. Many metabolites go unidentified, limiting the impact of these powerful techniques on real-world applications. This event brings together leading experts to discuss strategies and technologies that can bridge this gap and enhance metabolite identification.

Gain insights from experts in a two-part discussion: a master class highlighting key metabolomics challenges and solutions, followed by a roundtable discussion featuring industry leaders tackling the bottlenecks in metabolite identification. Choose to attend one or both sessions.

Part 2: Roundtable discussion: Breaking through the bottleneck in metabolomics

Join this expert panel discussion addressing the major bottlenecks in metabolite identification. Panelists will explore how advancements in hardware and mass accuracy, along with software-driven AI solutions, are transforming metabolomics. This session includes a live Q&A, allowing you to engage directly with industry leaders.

Presenter: Filippos Michopoulos (Astrazeneca)

Filippos Michopoulos is an analytical chemist who has obtained his PhD from University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in “Biomarker Discovery and drug efficacy in studying autoimmune diseases”. Filippos has 20 years of experience in metabolic profiling technologies across the academia and industry. Filippos has developed a wide range of robust analytical technologies using U(H)PLC separations hyphenated to mass spectrometry predominantly focused on polar metabolite analysis and quantitation. He is interested to utilise advancements in analytical science to unravel biological complexity and enhance understanding of pathophysiological mechanism. Filippos has more than >30 peer reviewed scientific publication and an active reviewer in >10 scientific journals.

Presenter: Ferran Sanchez (Market Development Manager, Pharma/CRO (MS & CE), EMEAI, SCIEX)

Ferran obtained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Barcelona in 2005 and has been involved with mass spectrometry ever since. He has worked for SCIEX for 18 years holding different positions in sales, marketing and business development covering the EMEAI region. During this time, Ferran has been working closely with customers in the pharmaceutical industry to deepen his understanding of the market and user needs for delivering the right solutions at the right time.

Presenter: Martin Giera, Ph.D.

Martin Giera, Ph.D., studied pharmacy in Heidelberg and Munich. He is professor for translational metabolomics and lipidomics and vice-chair of the center for proteomics and metabolomics at the Leiden University Medical Center. He is involved in several multi-national consortia, member of several editorial boards and chairman of the interdisciplinary committee at FWO. Martin has a keen interest in metabolomics technology, drug development and biochemistry. He has published more than 250 scientific publications, patents and books.
