Bruker: Visualizing the Spatial Landscape of the Brain Endocannabinoidome by MALDI-2 Imaging

Endocannabinoids (eCBs) are endogenous lipid messengers that interact with cannabinoid receptors CB1/CB2 and play a critical role in the central nervous system, often altered in neurological disorders. The low concentration in tissue posts a challenge to ionize and spatially analyze these compounds. Applying a laser-induced post-ionization (MALDI-2) approach improves sensitivity and limit of detection. After optimization, this method was applied to a mouse model of mild traumatic brain injury.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the benefits that MALDI Imaging brings to neuropharmacology applications
  • Learn applications where MALDI-2 enhances sensitivity
  • Understand the technological benefits of MALDI-2
Who should attend:
  • Researchers in pharmacology that want to add a spatial dimension to their research
  • Investigators that want to expand their technological understanding of MALDI

Presenter: Eduardo Sommella, Ph.D., Assoicate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno, Naples, Italy

Eduardo Sommella is Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno (Italy), and coordinator of the Mass Spectrometry Platform. His work focuses on the development and application of multi-omics-mass spectrometry-based approaches for drug discovery and clinical-diagnostics fields.
