SelectScience: Connecting at-line UV-Vis with in-line process Raman for real-time protein and excipient monitoring

Accurate measurement of protein as well as excipient concentration is essential in downstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing and process control, spanning from post-purification stages to final preparation for fill and finish.

Join Dr. Janam Pandya and Patrick Brown as they explore how UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy work together to deliver a complete picture of bioprocess performance. Learn how rapid, at-line UV-Vis analysis provides precise quantification of highly concentrated protein samples, while complementary, in-line Raman spectroscopy continuously monitors protein concentration and excipients in real time.

By integrating these two optical techniques, scientists can connect fast at-line confirmation with continuous in-line insight, enabling data-driven decisions that enhance process understanding, control, and product quality.

Key learning objectives:

  • Understand how UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy complement one another across at-line and in-line workflows.
  • Learn how a new at-line UV-Vis technology enables accurate measurement of highly concentrated protein samples.
  • Discover the strengths of process Raman spectroscopy in quantifying protein concentration and excipients in complex matrices.
  • Explore how process Raman spectroscopy can be applied for in-line analysis to support process decision-making.

Who should attend?

  • Scientists developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and improving manufacturing processes, including upstream/downstream, MSAT, and PAT roles.
  • R&D and technical experts exploring new technologies including lab managers, QA/QC, professors, engineers, and purchasing agents.

Certificate of attendance

  • If you attend the live webinar, you will automatically receive a certificate of attendance, including a learning outcomes summary, for continuing education purposes.
  • If you view the on-demand webinar, you can request a certificate of attendance by emailing [email protected].

Presenter: Dr. Janam Pandya (Product Manager, Measurement Control and Sample Identification, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Dr. Janam Pandya is a scientist and spectroscopist with 10 years of academic and industry experience. Dr. Pandya obtained his Ph.D. in food science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst; there his research focused on developing novel analytical methods utilizing cutting-edge Raman spectroscopic techniques. Since 2022, he has worked for Thermo Fisher Scientific as an application scientist, advancing the application of Raman Spectroscopy for real-time process measurements. This includes his current focus on implementing process Raman spectroscopy as a PAT tool in the clean-energy sector, among other industries.

Presenter: Patrick Brown (Senior Product Manger, Thermo Fisher Scientific)

Patrick Brown graduated with a masters in Biomedical Science from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from University of Delaware. He now leads the UV-Vis Product Management team for Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he works with his team to collect user feedback, and then integrate this feedback into software and hardware updates.
