Metrohm: Modern Methods for Corrosion Prevention and Analysis
Metrohm: Modern Methods for Corrosion Prevention and Analysis

Billions of dollars are spent annually on the effects of corrosion, so accurate and efficient methods to monitor and prevent corrosion are critical to safety and productivity in most industries. Compared to traditional corrosion analysis methods that offer a qualitative overview of the process, electrochemistry provides quantitative insight into the corrosion process. These electrochemical tests allow scientists to analyze corrosion failure and mechanisms and are more cost-effective and less time consuming. Insights from quantitative, electrochemical tests can be used to develop corrosion mitigation practices like corrosion inhibitors and resistant coatings.

Join our webinar to hear Larry Tucker, Director of Norms and Standards at Metrohm USA summarize our broad industry perspective on corrosion monitoring, prevention and mitigation. Dr. Julia van Drunen, Head of Competency Center, Voltammetry at Metrohm will discuss the application of electrochemical methods used to measure and monitor different types of corrosion.

A Q&A session with Larry Tucker and Dr. Nam Tran, Electrochemistry Applications Specialist at Metrohm USA, will follow these presentations, allowing you to get personalized answers to the corrosion issues you encounter. Plus, attendees can receive a certificate of attendance!

This mini course is ideal for:

  • Laboratory scientists and managers performing Corrosion R&D
  • Failure analysis or prevention scientists
  • Those involved in studying coating efficiency

What you'll learn

  • Discover how to assess corrosion processes
  • Learn about different types of corrosion and how to mitigate them
  • Learn how to make effective decisions about corrosion mitigation

Presenter: Larry Tucker (Director of Norms and Standards, Metrohm USA)

Larry Tucker, Director of Norms and Standards is employed with Metrohm USA. In his role, Larry works with industry partners to improve and develop new test methods in the petroleum, environmental, pharmaceutical, and food markets. He actively participates in ASTM committee D02: Petroleum Products, Liquid Fuels and Lubricants, where he serves as a vice chairperson, on subcommittee 6: Liquid Fuels and Lubricants, and on subcommittee 3: Inorganic Analysis. He has led and participated in the development and improvement of numerous ASTM test methods and standards. Larry received his B.S in Chemistry from the University of West FL and has over 35 years of industry experience in developing analytical test methods.

Presenter: Dr. Julia van Drunen (Head of Competency Center, Voltammetry, Metrohm)

Julia van Drunen completed her Ph.D. in electrochemistry at Queen’s University in 2013 and worked for two years as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Sao Paulo before joining Metrohm Autolab in the Netherlands in 2016. She specializes in the topics of surface electrochemistry of nickel and platinum, electrocatalysis, and the corrosion of metals and alloys.
