Presenter: Prof. Hyungwon Choi (Director, SLING, National University of Singapore)

Dr. Choi was trained as computational biologist with doctoral and post-doctoral traininginUniversityof Michigan Ann Arbor, USA. He joinedNUS faculty in 2011 and is currently associate professor in the Department of Medicine. He serves as the chair of Cardiovascular-MetabolicDiseaseTranslational ResearchProgramme in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the director of Singapore Lipidomics Incubator in Life Sciences Institute at the university. In his early careerhis main research covered computational proteomics, protein-centric analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data in large-scale clinical studies, and network-driven integration of multi-omics data. His most recent research expands into bioinformatics workflow development for raw mass spectrometry data processing in targeted and untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, incorporating deep learning algorithms for cheminformatics. During the fifteen years in NUS, his team has developed innovative data analytic approaches to parse signals from mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics data, describe cellular dynamics in terms of protein abundance, modifications, and interaction, and derive accurate measurements of small molecules.Leveragingon these diverse capabilities, his team has led data generation and analysis in multiple clinical biomarker studies in type II diabetes, diabetic complications, cardiovascular disease, and cognitive decline and other aging-related diseases conducted in Singapore.

Presenter: Dr. Amaury Cazenave-Gassiot (Research Assistant Professor, SLING, National University of Singapore)

Dr. Amaury Cazenave-Gassiotis a Research Assistant Professor in the Singapore Lipidomics Incubator (SLING) and CVMD Translation Research Programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Since joining NUS in 2009, Dr. Cazenave-Gassiot has specialised in mass spectrometry-based analysis, gaining experience in lipidomics and lipid biochemistry.

He has contributed his analytical expertise to a broad range of collaborative research projects spanning animal models and human pre-clinical samples across diverse lipid classes. His research focuses on understanding lipids and lipid metabolism in the context of health, disease, and ageing, with applications extending from cardiovascular disease to emerging areas such as cancer, depression, or brain diseases.

As a member of the international lipidomics community, he contributes to the development of effective, reliable analytical methods and the harmonization of lipidomic practices across the field. As co-PI of the R&D node within the NUS–Agilent Hub for Translation and Capture, he leads efforts to build robust, high-throughput mass spectrometric assays and to facilitate the adoption of omics technologies. This work encompasses the validation and application of assays to pre-clinical cohorts, bridging fundamental research and translational science. More recently, he has expanded his research scope towards exposomics, leveraging his mass spectrometry expertise, he is developing analytical approaches to detect and quantify these persistent environmental contaminants (such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, PFAS) in human cohorts.

Presenter: Dr. Ravindra Gudihal (Application Scientist, Agilent Technologies, Inc)

Ravindra Gudihal is a Senior Solution Scientist at Agilent Technologies Singapore, specializing in advanced analytical workflows for biopharma. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science and has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles. Ravindra is passionate about bridging science and innovation to transform how we understand and develop life-saving therapies.
