Presenter: Richard Van Breemen, Ph.D. (Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Linus Pauling Institute, Oregon State University)

Richard B. van Breemen is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Linus Pauling Insititute and the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University. Prof. van Breemen received his B.A. in chemistry from Oberlin College in 1980 and Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics with Catherine Fenselau from the Johns Hopkins University in 1985.

He carried out post-doctoral research in laser desorption mass spectrometry with Robert Cotter at Johns Hopkins before joining North Carolina State University and then the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. At Illinois, he co-founded the UIC/NIH Center for Botanical Dietary Supplements Research with the late Norman Farnsworth and served as its director until moving to Oregon State University in 2018.

He is on the editorial boards ofAssay and Drug Development Technologies,Biomedical ChromatographyandJournal of AOAC International.His research concerns the discovery and development of natural products as chemoprevention agents and the investigation of botanical dietary supplements as alternatives to hormone therapy for menopausal women.

Presenter: Brian Feild (Sales Specialist - LCMS, Shimadzu)

In the thirteen years Brian Feild has worked at Shimadzu he has worn several hats. Previous to his current position as the LCMS and Life Science Sales Specialist for the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain States, he served as the Life Science Product Manager and also worked in the applications lab specializing in MALDI applications. Before coming to Shimadzu, Brian worked at Celera Genomics using LCMS and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry for target discovery for biotherapeutic and diagnostic development. Brian received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Dayton and an M.S. in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University.
