The method performance study was completed on an ACQUITY I-Class Plus with a XEVO TQ-S micro using a reversed phase LC method. Internal validation of the method demonstrated excellent performance for the quantification of acrylamide and haloacetic acids in various types of drinking water. The combination of acrylamide into the method increases the scope of the method and improves laboratory efficiency. By using a reversed phase LC approach, potential problems when using HILIC separations have been removed allowing a direct injection approach to be taken.

#WatersforWater – A session focused on water analysis with methods that will support you in line with the changes to the EU Drinking Water Directive.

Presenter: Janitha de Alwis (JD) (Senior Applications Chemist, Waters Corporation)

Janitha de Alwis (known as JD) is an applications chemist in the European demo lab, based in Wilmslow, UK. His main role focuses on application development work for the food and environmental sector. JD takes great pride in speaking to, and advising, many food and environmental customers. His position requires him to be reactive and proactive to the changes in the food industry, such as, changing regulations, topical issues and food safety risks.

Prior to joining Waters, JD worked at a contract and research organization for nearly 10 years where he managed a team of analysts focusing on food contaminants. In this fast-paced role, he enjoyed troubleshooting and method development. He worked on research and contract projects for many well-known food brands and government funded projects. His area of expertise here was around pesticides, mycotoxins, process contaminants (eg: acrylamide) and chemical adulterants.

JD’s passion is to work closely with Waters’ customers to develop relationships that can enhance their Waters’ experience and get the most out of Waters’ solutions.
