Lipidomics, the comprehensive analysis of lipids within a biological system, continues to gain popularity as it offers insight into metabolic phenotype and underlying mechanisms of many diseases and conditions. However, most lipid species occupy a narrow mass range, which presents challenges to lipid identification.

In recent years, liquid chromatography coupled to ion mobility-mass spectrometry (LC-IM-MS) for lipidomics has shown advantages in lipid identification. In particular, collision cross section (CCS) obtained from the IM measurements represents a physical property that can be used to enhance the confidence of lipid identification.

Presenter: Dr. Libin Xu (Associate Professor, Medicinal Chemistry, University of Washington School of Pharmacy)

Dr. Xu is an Associated Professor at the UW, where he has been since 2014. Dr. Xu is a recipient of the NIH Pathway to Independence Award from NICHD and the Young Investigator Award from the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine. He is also the inaugural recipient of the School of Pharmacy Faculty Innovation Fund.
