With great pleasure we invite you to the third and final episode of Pesticide Thursdays webinar series for this season.

Highly polar pesticides are always a highly polarizing topic. Therefore, we are happy that insights into the analysis of cationic and anionic pesticides are brought to you by our dearest collaborators Hanna Marks from EURL for Single Residue Methods (GE) and Alexander Zahm from Eurofins Dr. Specht Express (GE):

1. Analysis of cationic polar pesticides using QuPPe and LC-MS/MS and occurrence in food products

Analysis of highly polar pesticides is challenging. Nevertheless, the high frequency with which such compounds are encountered in food of plant and animal origin shows the importance of monitoring these compounds. This presentation gives an overview on frequently occurring cationic pesticides and their analysis by QuPPe and LC-MS/MS.

Presenter: Hanna Marks (Food Chemist at Pesticide Residue Laboratory of CVUA Stuttgart , EURL for Single Residue Methods)

Hanna ist working as a food chemist at the Pesticide Residue Laboratory of CVUA Stuttgart since 2017 and is responsible for judicial and toxicological evaluation of analytical results, LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS. Since 2020 Hanna has been additionally focusing on method development for polar pesticides using the QuPPE method developed by the EURL for Single Residue Methods.

2. Establishing the Analysis of Glyphosate

Glyphosate was introduced to the crop protection market in 1974 by the Monsanto company with resounding success. It is currently the most widely used broad-spectrum herbicide worldwide. Genetically modified crops tolerant to glyphosate (trade name RoundupTM) are grown on a large scale worldwide. For this reason, the reliable analysis of glyphosate is of crucial importance. Consequently, the goal was to develop a robust method for the determination of glyphosate, AMPA, Glufosinate and metabolites in cereals, fruits and vegetables. Over the last 9 months we have established and validated a direct determination of the mentioned analytes on a Waters Xevo TQ-XS system using an APPC column.

In 2011 Dr. Alexander Zahm joined Eurofins as an analytical chemist. During the following years he gained experience in pesticides analysis especially in fruits an vegetables. Since 2019 Alexander is technical director of Eurofins Dr. Specht Express, and is responsible for the daily routine analysis as well as the development of new methods.
