Wiley: Wiley adds additional data to its SmartSpectra, IR, Raman, and LC-MS libraries

Wiley, a global leader in authoritative content and research intelligence, today announced the release of additional data to its IR, Raman, LC-MS, and SmartSpectra libraries, significantly broadening compound coverage. The expansion brings Wiley's spectral database offerings to over 9.5 million high-quality spectra, delivering researchers enhanced capabilities for faster, more confident compound identification.

These updates deliver what researchers need most: broader coverage and greater confidence in their identifications,” said Graeme Whitley, senior director, Wiley Science Solutions. “By expanding our empirical collections, including updates to our renowned Sadtler IR and Raman libraries, alongside our SmartSpectra databases, we're providing quality data researchers can rely on to make critical decisions across their analytical workflows.”

Subscribers automatically gain access to new data, ensuring labs always have the most current, reliable reference libraries to improve analysis, reduce errors, and increase productivity.

KnowItAll Raman Spectral Library Collection

The KnowItAll Raman collection has been expanded with 941 new spectra, bringing the total to more than 28,000 spectra. Two entirely new databases have been introduced: Raman – Drugs and Raman – Non-minerals.

In addition, existing databases have been enriched with new content, including:

  • 600 spectra added to Raman – Sadtler Polymers & Monomers (Basic 3)
  • 200 spectra added to Raman – Minerals
  • 16 spectra added to Raman – Polymers – Wiley

These updates significantly strengthen Raman identification capabilities across polymers, minerals, and pharmaceutical compounds.

KnowItAll IR Spectral Library Collection

The KnowItAll IR collection has grown by more than 2,000 spectra, reaching a total of over 343,000 spectra. Three new databases have been added: IR – Contaminants, IR – Drugs, and IR – Polymers.

An additional 100 spectra have also been incorporated into the IR – Minerals database, further expanding inorganic compound coverage.

KnowItAll LC-MS Library Collection

The KnowItAll LC-MS collection received one of the largest updates, with 497,000 new spectra added, representing an 18% increase. The collection now contains more than 3.2 million spectra.

Seven new empirical LC-MS databases have been introduced, covering a broad range of application areas:

  • LC-MS – Lipids Library
  • LC-MS – Pharmaceutical Compounds Library
  • LC-MS – Natural Products Library
  • LC-MS – Food Related Compounds Library
  • LC-MS – Environmental Compounds Library
  • LC-MS – General Compounds Library
  • LC-MS – Metabolites Library

These additions greatly enhance support for untargeted screening, metabolomics, and complex mixture analysis.

Wiley SmartSpectra IR Database Collection

The SmartSpectra IR collection has nearly doubled in size with the addition of more than 249,000 spectra, bringing the total to over 499,000 spectra. Ten new databases have been added, covering critical compound classes such as lipids, endocrine disruptors, drugs, PFAS, pesticides, and additional emerging contaminants.

Wiley SmartSpectra Raman Database Collection

The SmartSpectra Raman collection experienced a major expansion, with over 100,000 new spectra added, representing a 300%+ increase. The collection now includes more than 133,000 spectra.

Five new databases have been introduced, focusing on high-interest areas including lipids, PFAS, endocrine disruptors, cosmetics, and fragrances.

Wiley SmartSpectra Vapor Phase IR Database Collection

The SmartSpectra Vapor Phase IR collection has been expanded with more than 3,000 new spectra, increasing the total to over 218,000 spectra. Five new databases have been added, covering lipids, endocrine disruptors, fragrances, cosmetics, and PFAS—supporting improved analysis of volatile and semi-volatile compounds.

By combining Wiley's empirical and SmartSpectra collections, researchers now have access to over 1 million IR spectra and over 161,000 Raman spectra—including the renowned Sadtler Libraries available exclusively through KnowItAll. SmartSpectra extends researchers' reach into chemical space beyond what's available in empirical libraries alone, enabling identification of compounds that haven't yet been physically measured.

Wiley's comprehensive spectral database collections provide access to millions of high-quality spectra across a range of techniques, including IR, MS, NMR, Raman, and UV-Vis. These resources play a vital role in the interpretation, identification, verification, and classification of spectra across applications including pharmaceuticals, environmental science, forensics, materials research, and food safety.
