Mass spectrometry (MS) has revolutionized analytical chemistry by enabling the detailed identification and quantification of biomolecules in complex matrices. Techniques such as LC–MS, CE–MS and MALDI–MS are widely used in fields ranging from metabolomics and proteomics to clinical diagnostics, environmental analysis and pharmaceutical quality control. Combination of MS with separation methods (LC, CE) and interface technologies (electrospray, MALDI) yields high sensitivity and selectivity, essential for detecting trace-level compounds. These methods are crucial for:

• Biomarker discovery in disease research
• Quality control in drug production
• Monitoring environmental contaminants
• Studying protein–ligand and protein–DNA interactions
• Elucidating metabolic pathways and mechanisms of action

Future trends include integrating MS data with bioinformatics, improving throughput and sensitivity, and applying single-cell and spatial omics approaches.
