The Follistatin Analysis is a targeted laboratory test designed to confirm the identity and determine the amount of follistatin in lyophilised vials and raw active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) powders.
For lyophilised samples, results are reported in milligrams per vial. Raw API powders can be evaluated using an alternative result format based on purity in % (m/m). Follistatin is a protein rather than a peptide, and peptide purity is therefore not determined as part of this analysis.
Follistatin is a naturally occurring glycoprotein that binds activin with high affinity and regulates its biological activity. It also interacts with other members of the TGF-β superfamily and has been studied in connection with processes including muscle growth, reproduction, and tissue regulation.
Follistatin occurs in several molecular forms and is widely used as a research target in studies of activin signalling and related biological pathways.
Important Notice
- Follistatin is a protein rather than a peptide. Peptide purity is therefore not measured as part of this analysis.
- For lyophilised samples, one whole unopened vial containing lyophilisate is required.
- Raw API powder should be supplied as at least 30 mg in a sealed glass vial to minimise moisture absorption.
