While they may appear simple, their formulation is actually quite sophisticated. Each gummy is produced using a precisely balanced combination of gelling agents, sugars, acids, flavourings, and colourants, all working together to deliver the desired taste and texture.</strong></p><p>For instance, the characteristic chewiness of gummy sweets results from the interaction between gelatin and sugars. Even minor adjustments—such as changing the type or concentration of the gelling agent—can significantly alter the final product. In addition, manufacturers must meet regulatory and labeling requirements, including certifications like Halal compliance. This makes accurate and consistent monitoring of ingredients essential throughout production.</p><h4><span><strong>The importance of SEC fingerprinting</strong></span></h4><p>Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), also known as Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), offers a fast and reliable way to analyze gummy formulations. One sample contained porcine gelatin, while the other used bovine gelatin. The resulting SEC fingerprints showed clear differences in the gelatin region, allowing unambiguous identification. <div><p><strong>Affinity chromatography has become a highly effective and scalable method for purifying adeno-associated virus (AAV) particles in gene therapy manufacturing. However, the use of acidic elution conditions (pH 2–3) continues to raise concerns about potential capsid instability and loss of infectivity, even when followed by immediate pH neutralization.</strong></p><p>This webinar investigates the impact of low pH elution on AAV capsid integrity and biological activity. Using a combination of size exclusion chromatography coupled with multi-angle light scattering (SEC-MALS) and functional assays, we assess capsid aggregation and structural stability across three AAV serotypes—AAV5, AAV8, and AAV9—purified under various elution conditions and incubated at different temperatures. Bindesh has co-authored about three dozen peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, such as Angewandte Chemie, Analytical Chemistry, Analyst, Nature Methods. This fast-moving and ever-changing landscape places significant demands on forensic toxicology laboratories, driving the need for robust, efficient, and adaptable analytical methodologies to ensure comprehensive drug screening. LC-MS/MS provides a versatile platform to meet these challenges, offering a spectrum of approaches—from targeted, nominal-mass instrumentation for focused suspect screening to non-targeted, accurate-mass workflows capable of detecting and identifying unknown compounds.</strong></p><p>This webinar will showcase two LC-MS/MS-based strategies designed to streamline toxicology testing and improve laboratory efficiency. The first is a semi-quantitative screening method for 500 compounds using a QTRAP system, enabling identification and relative abundance categorization of compounds in blood and urine samples. The second is a QTOF-based method that integrates screening and confirmation of 976 analytes across 35 drug classes, tailored for postmortem (PM), driving under the influence of drugs (DUID), and drug-facilitated sexual assault (DFSA) casework.
