Participants receive a concise refresher on mass-spectrometric fundamentals, along with an introduction to key terminology. The principles and practical consequences of ionization methods are then discussed, with emphasis on how ionization physics, LC conditions, and mobile-phase additives shape spectral appearance. Building on this foundation, the course develops practical skills for interpreting LC-ESI spectra: locating the molecular ion, determining charge state, recognizing common adducts, distinguishing in-source artefacts, and using isotope patterns to support elemental-composition hypotheses. Participants then explore how MS/MS fragmentation provides structural clues, with straightforward rules of thumb for neutral losses and class-specific fragmentation behaviors. The course concludes with an integrative exercise that synthesizes chromatographic, full-scan, and MS/MS information to support spectral interpretation. ISC 2026 Short Course 3 - Interpretation of Mass Spectra: Basic Introduction for Chromatographers

<p><strong>Eurachem and CITAC welcome analysts interested in the evaluation of chemical analysis uncertainty and in how to use this information in results interpretation. The Eurachem Week 2026 will begin with a training course on “Evaluation of the measurement uncertainty from in-house precision and recovery data” scheduled for Sunday, 10 May 2026. A two-days workshop on “Quality in Analytical Measurements: Uncertainty Evaluation and Results Interpretation” open to all interested participants will take place from 11 to 12 May 2026. On 13 May 2026, the Eurachem Working Groups will convene, followed by the Eurachem General Assembly, which will bring together the Executive and national delegates on 14 and 15 May. Both Working Group Meetings and the General Assembly are restricted to their members.</strong></p><p>The results of qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses should have an acceptable uncertainty, which should ideally be reported and considered in results interpretation.</p><p>For many analytical applications, simplified uncertainty evaluations can determine uncertainty values that meet the defined requirements for this parameter. The workshop will focus on the key technical challenges involved in practical evaluations of measurement uncertainty based on precision and recovery data gathered during in-house method validation and quality control. There will be a discussion of how to model the variation of the measurement uncertainty within the analytical range and how to handle divergent recovery values from the analysis of various reference materials. In this presentation, we show how chromatography modelling can be used to pick the optimum selectivity, shorten cycle time, decrease peak width, and enhance resolution, which is translated into higher peak capacity. We will highlight the use of modelling to increase peak capacity and address challenging separations by showcasing several real-life methods employed in the pharmaceutical industry.</p>

<p><strong>In recent years, the use of quantitative liquid chromatography (LC) coupled charged aerosol detection (CAD) for poor UV absorbing analytes in multicomponent mixtures has grown exponentially across industrial sectors.</strong></p>
<p>In this live webinar, we will highlight some distinctions between <strong>CAD</strong> and other <strong>UV-absorbance detection</strong>, such as the non-linear response to analyte concentration, and sensitivity to mobile phase impurities. However, careful optimization of CAD parameters can lead to successful development and transfer of analytical methods, nearly on par with that of conventional <strong>UV absorbance detectors</strong>. Through careful tuning CAD parameters, we have developed <strong>quantitative LC-CAD assays</strong> which are sensitive, precise, accurate and robust across early and late-stage pharmaceutical development. Examples of LC-CAD methods across various stages of drug development spanning from discovery to commercialization will be shared during the presentation. </p>

In this session, Carolina Sanchez, Senior Scientist, and Katie Proctor, Senior Scientist, will discuss the challenges of manually processing and reviewing large volumes of analytical data, and explain how automation software solutions are boosting efficiency and benefiting them in their day-to-day work. Following that, Dr. Christoph Bauer, Associate Principal Scientist, will discuss the IT architecture and integration aspects of the solution implementation.</strong></p><p>A lab with significant analytical capacity entails managing a large number of instruments and extensive analytical data on a daily basis. Within our purification labs, analytical screening data generated for compounds submitted for purification, as well as data from instrument suitability testing, was traditionally reviewed manually by an analyst to determine the most appropriate method for purification. However, this changed with the implementation of the automation solution from Mnova. The solution includes the Chrom SST brick, which monitors the performance of our instruments, and Chrom Best Method, which automatically processes the screening data and identifies the best conditions for purification, thereby freeing up analyst time.</p><p>In this webinar, we will explain how these solutions fit into our day-to-day work and the benefits they have brought us.
